Video 145 MPH
--"The e90 is stable untill the 155mph limiter. The steering wheel does get light after 145 though, but nothing major. I tried it out while in germany doing my E/D. Actually, I"ll post a link to that video on the multimedia section of this forum now. The first video has shots of me going 145, and the others I will post later in the week after it is accepted for upload is of me doing 155 and hitting the limiter, but the quality sucks. We had a digital camera taking the vids, and forgot to change the quality settings."
I have some decent vids of my 04 suzuki gsxr 750 going around 140 also, and I'll try to post some of those later this week as well, even those it's not e90 related. Anybody else have some cool vids to share? http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...89322087062445

Really Cool - especially the glasses
I thought those AutoBahns were 3 lanes ? Has anyone thought of taking their car to the classic Nurbergring (Sp) race track, its open to the public on some days. For a European Delivery that would be the ultimate. One question though, is it really sensible to max a car out on a ED, when it has yet to be run in. You guys must be made of money |

Great video...
Just makes you feel all the more disappointed that the USA doesn't have any autobahns - even Montana is starting to place limits on speed again. |

thanks donnygirl...the glasses are Persol's, Italian made with real polarized glass lenses, I love em. The autobahn's really only have two lanes in most places. Only when you get into the bigger cities, like Munich, do you have 3 lanes, and then there is a restricted limits to about 60mph.

oh yeah, I didn't like driving the car at the limit's while on the e/d because it it new and not broken in, but I told myself that there is no way that I was going to be in Germany on the autobahn's and drive only 100mph, which is the recommended limit set by BMW. I mean, the minimum limit on those roads was 87 MPH! I do not want to get back into this argument about how to break in the engine, (which is already on 100 different posts), but I have always had new cars, and never broken in an engine (both cars, trucks, and motorcycles) the way that the manufacturer recommends. However, I never kept them more than 100,000 miles to verify the long term effects. This e/d gave me a great opportunity to experience what automobile aficianodo's, journalists, etc. have been talking about since the autobahn's were built. There are really no words to describe what it feels like, not only to go fast, where you can illegally do it here in the US as well, but to go fast and not have to worry about hitting a pot hole (Germany highways are the best in the world), or rear ending another driver going too slow in the fast left lane. Try leaving your turn signal on blinking to the left, and watch in amazement at how fast they get out of the lane. The blinker means that you are going super fast, and get the hell outta the way! As of just recently, it is illegal to do that because they say that it scares drivers, and they panic, leading to more accidents.
Any other E/D stories that you guys want to share as well?

Nice video
Just seemed a tad dangerous because there was ice on the roads where the central divider made a shadow on the road but perhaps an indication of how well the car inspires confidence even in questionable conditions. Again, great video though, loved the encounter with the Z4 |

actually the z4 hit the gas before I did so I could not catch up, and after 145mph we hit light traffic, had to slow down, and he ended up taking the exit. The roads were not icy, it was almost 40F at the time, but the very left side of the left lane was a bit wet though because of melting snow, and that is why the rain wipers came on all the time.

Yea I know what you mean, I have been driving in Germany since 1998. I first had a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX which topped out at 150 down hill on Autobahn 7. I am waiting to get my 325i from the factory over here in Germany. Then I will travel around 100Ks to break it in. But I will only do 120Ks, which is around 80 mph. I will stay in the slow lane. I have been passed by some cars going so fast that if my doors were not bolted on they would have been sucked off. I love the Autobahns over here, but if you crash on one you might not walk away. Another thing about Germany there is not as many cars as there is in the states. All I have to say is watch your mirrors and you will be just fine.

It's not the fact that there are less cars in Germany, it's that all drivers in Europe are taught and fully understand motorway (interstate) lane protocol. Notice how EVERYONE gets out of the way and 'keeps right'.
Even on the straightest, best maintained section of I95, you could never do that kind of speed for long because of some numbnut in the fast lane talking on his phone doing 55. Here in the US the speed limit will always be 65 unless there is a monumental change in the way we err..give driver's licenses to anyone who is not legally blind and has opposable thumbs.

Yep, good to watch. Car seems very quiet and refined at 140+. Surprised when I saw you change down to 5th but I guess you'd slowed a bit by then, then nailed it to catch the Z4?

yeah, I think that I was somewhere around 125 or 130mph when I had to shift from 6th to 5th to get some more juice out of the car. Actually, I don't remember any more if I was able to take it all the way to 155 in 5th alone! I am sure that I was able to take it to 150 though. In 6th at top speed though, there is still about 1,000 rpm before redline!!! I'm sure that if there was more road and no limiter that this car could hit just over 160mph. I am still waiting for the rest of the vids to get accepted for upload, and I will put the links on here.
