Updating Modules... Going Well!

Been fighting with this upgraded professional radio and getting sirius activated, so along the way I've been updating modules using WinkFP.

Started off like this....

Besides the fact that I want to blow my brains out over trying to get FStool working. I can't seem to update RADIO using winkFP. It can't find the ZB number, and the same address comes up under SDAR60 module in there.

Anyways, how am I doing? Eventually I'm hoping to get the Sirius working. Probably going to need to do it with ISTA/P.

With Winkfp comfort mode the correct ZB numbers are selected automatically.

Can you elaborate? I have a 2008 335 that hasn't seen the dealer since 2010 or 2011.

Can you tell me what modules are able to updated safely over KDCan cable?

Updating modules should not be classed as 'safe' at all. It's risky, many people brick their modules when trying to update them. To limit the risk you should have some method of supporting the car battery voltage which will also take current draws of up to 90amp.

Most people use a battery charger, however you ideally need a power supply.

To lower the risk further you should only flash modules with a high quality interface such as an OPPS unit or ICOM A2 / B. A quality DCAN cable from onestopelectronics is good for most of the smaller modules however media modules (on the MOST loop) should be flashed with an ICOM B.

I only have the professional radio, no i-drive or anything. IIRC it only took 25mins or so.

The TCU/MULF took the longest. I got 1.5 episodes of walking dead in while it was going.

I'm using a K-DCAN cable from Amazon. I must have lucked out because this cable has been rock steady and works for everything I can throw at it so far.

This is interesting info for those of us who have never attempted updating before. Now I get why I see a huge power supply connected to the vehicle sometimes in pics....

I don't have an ICOM cable yet and I have a 0906 prod date. I had to fake my date to 0911 for a couple things.
