Need clutch, do I HAVE to replace flywheel also?
My clutch is dying and I’m getting ready to purchase everything I need but I can’t find a straight answer on if I need to replace the flywheel as well? I assume I will need to get a micrometer and make sure it’s within tolerances but does anyone know what those tolerances would be? ‘14 335i N55. I heard the dual mass flywheels can’t be resurfaced and damn they are twice the price of the clutch. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Need to? Good question. But you'll be right there, so I would. I got my transmission replaced under warranty and the dealer said that the clutch AND the flywheel were bad. They also said the previous owner didn't know how to drive stick so some user error may have damaged the flywheel. Your car may be different.

Thank you all! I’m broke AF for a while but really need my car. I know it’s only $500 but if I could get a used one, what should I be looking for on the flywheel to make sure it’s still good?

I would "Bite the Bullet", since you will be in there anyway. Do both at once and save a potential headache later with the flywheel which damaged your new clutch. I always treat them as a "matched set"!
