E90 N52 2006 noise after engine off
I heard an unusual noise from engine bay after turning off. First time, it made the noise 3 or 4 times. The second time when I was ready with hood up, phone in hand - only once. After I noticed it can also be heard while running.
Sounds like an actuator/motor - maybe DISA or throttle body? from that general area. But I didn't think either of those did anything after engine off? I plan to put INPA on this weekend and see if I can recreate by actuating whatever I can. But, I'd appreciate any experience, suggestions if someone knows what this is to narrow the search. Thanks in advance! Videos/sound on YouTube links Sounds with engine off https://youtube.com/shorts/5D9I_fWWjP4?feature=share sound with engine running https://youtube.com/shorts/YSQ1D8vJAlw |

Had the exact same thing happen to me, it was the large disa, the flap had fallen off the shaft and the wirring noise was the actuator going haywire cause of that.
Check the Disas, start with the easy one, the large

Thanks! Yeah I used INPA to actuate DISAs and the inner, small one was grinding. You were right. I didn’t expect the DISAs to be actuating after the engine is turned off. Not sure if that’s the norm, the DISAs are moved after engine off for some reason or the DISA had been detected as bad and it was doing something with it as a diag/self test. There wasn’t an indication on dash but there was a code set in INPA. Either way, have a replacement on order.

I'm familiar with the air vents closing to keep rodents and other out. Also the fuel tank air pump cycling to fill when turned off but DISA's is a new one to add to the list .. lol
