Highways arent the roads vasil is worred about. Its the roads in the city that cause serious impacts as speeds below 20mph.

OP, you made a prudent decision to go with 18” wheels.

Whenever I see aftermarket 19-inch (or larger) wagon wheels with low-profile rubber band tires mounted on a car, the term "Radically Immature Car Enthusiast" comes to mind. I’ve also noticed that there’s a strong correlation between wheel size and the magnitude of haphazard aftermarket “Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements” on a given car (such as huge exhaust tips, rolled fenders, slammed suspensions, flashy body kits, neon lights, excessively tinted windows, bug shields, etc.). IMO, these types of aftermarket modifications look tacky on any vehicle, but they look even worse on a venerable BMW 3-Series vehicle. This is just my sardonic opinion based on years of observation though...

We must use cheap asphalt around here too because there are no pot holes on the side streets, they're more like craters that would eat your whole wheel.

The fatter the sidewall on the tire, I'm thinking you'll have a much more comfortable ride. Is the 18 a compromise of both - OP will have to make the decision of comfort or appearance.

Alright folks,

Here is a quick update:

I took the car in for alignment to a very reputable BMW race shop. At 20K miles on the clock, the alignment was WAY out of spec on all 4 corners! Also, my front right wheel (stock type 162) is more of a square than a circle. It has that many bends! I was totally shocked of the condition of the wheel considering that I am extremely careful in the city and I try to avoid even the smallest pothole.

This experience has solidified my decision: I will be getting 18" wheels and I strongly recommend that anyone who lives in a area with poor roads, not to put wheels any bigger than that.

It is filled with more wheel and less tire. Yes the overall diameter is the same but visually, you are seeing more metal than tire.

Me too! Nice choice on the hardware. I will be purchasing an intercooler sometime soon. Still have not made up my mind on which unit to get.

Which ones are you looking at? From what I had read, it came down to either the hpf and the helix.

Hey, it's still just his opinion, nothing more.

I personally think it's crazy to ask other members here what they think about a certain cosmetic mod. I mean really, who's car is it anyway? It is one thing to get input on performance mods and tire performance, always a good idea. But for wheels and alike? Are some folks that insecure about what they like that they need others to tell them? Once again only my opinion
