I don't like having to have a front plate either, but where I am in Texas is pretty tough on enforcing it. I just mounted mine in the center, because I really don't like the off-balanced look of a tow hook plate.

This is the bracket I used - no holes in the front of the bumper.

I dont like it either , but getting pulled over is a hassle. Its my best option at this point, with the quick release I can take it off easily when I go out of state or to meets. But your right much better suited for the sti/evo crowd. Where did you mount the plate on your Z?
