Agree the halogen bulb doesn't have enough light output to work with the projectors. The projectors usually spread light, if there's not a lot light, there's not a lot to spread.

Does anyone know if we can use the H7 morimoto elite HID system with these headlights?

So where are you guys mounting your ballasts? Are you putting somewhere not so noticable to the BMW techs? Or somewhere you can easily get to incase theres a problem with the lights?

Hey do you know of any other holders I can order? The one you linked has a 15-20 day shipping time...

How about this?

They look like they will fit any other H7 HID bulb base. The ones Morimoto comes with has a cylindrical base (and can be detached from the wires - see the pictures I added previously you ll know what I mean) whereas other H7 HID bulbs have a more narrow square base (and you can't remove the bulb from the wires).

I doubt these would help. Check again on Amazon if not then you can get them on eBay as well.

I was wondering why most of you folks are going with HID even with more hassle? I remember modding my 135 into HID Angels eyes in the past and I would have thanked god if a good pair of LED was available, so I didn't have to mess with ballast and mounting and drilling holes etc. Wouldn't using LED be more subtle and stock looking? Just curious what made you all favor HID.

Btw, this setup has separate high and low beam. If mounting HID to the low beam and not high beam, wouldn't it look funny when you flash high beam at night? Why not just put four identical LED bulbs into both low and high so it looks more consistent.

UPDATE!! These don't clear the Morimoto bulbs either.

So, I am just going to order one of the other H7 bulbs with the square base. Hopefully that should work.

I don't think you can put the LEDs without the ballast. I have looked at good LED bulbs and almost all of them come with some sort of ballast and then add the error canceler and you are probably stuck with the same situation.

Also I get the impression that LED generally isn't as good. Brighter up close but drops off significantly and has less throw. Also it may be worse in the rain/snow because it's whiter.

why dont people just order the optional upgrade to the 6000k HID that USR offers? I upgraded over the halogens, are those not good enough?
Although I need to call USR today because they are lagging on my order.

They weren't available when I ordered. There were also some mentioning of the LED's not being as good as the LED's that came with the halogens headlights. Read the thread...

I will take better photos with beam pattern and how it looks on the road.

If anyone in SoCal doesn't mind driving down to Mission Viejo, the shop here is really good. They only deal with BMWs. They charged $150 for the install and are willing to do it for that price for anyone who wants to do the swap.

Now time to figure out what to do with the old headlights. Suggestions?
