The N55 sounds like crap compared to the N54. I dont care what exhaust you are running. I hate this engine and is the only reason I will never buy any bmw with an N55.

Good question, is there any difference in the N55 in my E92 and the F30 sedan?

Side note: I have heard other exhaust on E9X's and they all sound similar to me, so I wonder why people pay more for something that does not sound all that different from the cheaper alternatives?

I agree the N55 does sound like poop. Hell, even BMW knows it sounds bad, hence the active sound BS.

I put one on mine yesterday - the first one on the forum as far as I know. Only drove it home in traffic but the few times I leaned on it - sounded like the video - great pops on the upshifts. There was no drone in the cockpit so I am pleased. Not a cheap fitting however. It is stainless steel so weight savings are minimal but it would cost twice as much if it was titanium and would not sound any better. Much of the pipe is twined from the cat back.

The ECU controlled exhaust note during regular driving is interesting. I'm not that familiar with Akrapovic's products, has this always been a feature or is this something new?

One thing that has held me back from an after market exhaust is that I don't like it when it sounds like cars are going fast when they are not actually going fast if you follow my meaning.

Something like this would make me think about getting an exhaust. I would have liked to hear how it sounds during normal driving, I know, totally opposite of what people normally look for.

Well, at normal city and highway cruising, it just has a slight growl hinting at power but no drone and no increase in decibals. It is only when you are stomping on it and shifting up at redline that it howls. The ECU controlled exhaust note is what comes standard from the factory. Akrapovic just piggybacked the design to use what was already available on the car. There is a plug that controls the valve in the exhaust. You can see it clearly in the installation instructions on their website.

I have had mine for a couple of days and I am just having a blast listening to the music of an inline 6. And I totally disagree that the N55 sounds like crap.

These are really nicely engineered products - a lot of thought has gone into it. The 335 with a PPK is a pretty quick car so it is moving when the exhaust is howling - no false advertisement. I will not argue that it is a lot of money for an exhaust system - value is always perceived differently by different folks. There are cheaper alternatives.
