Schrick has n52 cams listed on their site.. but its not clear if they are for the n54 or n52. I suspect we will know when their 2015 catalog comes out.
Why do people still pine over Vanos deletes? I you want a lumpy idle just change the overlap. That's the entire point of Vanos. Fwiw, you can lock Vanos in software on msv70. You might be able to run without valvetronic on mss70 but info on that computer is extremely scarce. |

I wasn't being overly serious about vano
s delete and solid lifter cams. I just remember seeing an e46 m3 track car that was vanos delete and it sounded like the idle of an old big block.

No idea why Vanos-delete is desired, maybe simplicity, dunno.

It's on their news page. But the part #s are the same as the N54. It seems unlikely they would make an error like that, but it's completely unclear.
http://www.schrick.com/index.php?art...&clang=0&nid=6 the other possibility is that N54 & N52 cams are compatible with each other. I know you can fit the N54 cam trays into the N52 (at least with some work). one way to find out would be to pick up a used n54 cam and compare it to your n52 cams. if all that's different is the profile, then these part #s should work. I'm not saying you'd want to swap cam trays (pretty sure the guy did that so he could eliminate Valvetronic). I'm saying, it's possible the N54 cams fit into the N52 head. I'm just not sure what, specifically, would need to be different on the intake cam for valvetronic to work. the exhaust cam doesn't have valvetronic so you'd think it wouldn't be special.
edit: exhaust cam tray is the same on N52, N54, and N55: 11127531224 so are the finger rockers: 11337559797 on the intake side, there are fewer parts that are the same. If you can believe the renderings they look basically the same though. 330i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...47&hg=11&fg=25 335i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=25&hl=3 the keepers, seals, etc are the same. it looks like the difference in the valves is mainly they are larger on the N52. if I were a betting man, I'd say the N54 intake cam should fit into the N52, and the exhaust cam definitely will. Also, looking at the specs for the Schrick cams on the new page link you provided it looks like they're not particularly radical with a max lift of 10.65mm if I'm interpreting it correctly. I suspect the Riot Racing regrinds won't be terribly different, we'll see though.

I edited my post. the exhaust valvetrain is the same, except the valves and cams. springs are probably different due to the difference in cam profiles.
as far as max lift, there is probably a mechanical limit (piston/valve contact isn't a good thing). also, you often can gain a lot more by changing the duration and ramp rates than simply increasing lift. sometimes increasing lift doesn't increase flow past a certain point. |

Agreed lift isn't everything compared to duration and ramp rate and I suspect the relative timing between the two intake valves and between the two exhaust valves. Probably not a good thing to muck with but, well, it is Schrick so ya never know. What I know about engine design you could write on my thumbnail with a marksalot... Have a contact now for a race engine builder so it's time to call him up and start asking embarrassingly stoopid questions.

looking at the specs, those schrick cams are definitely intended for the n54. the ones with the longer duration are exhaust, and the shorter duration are intake. The question is, are the intake cams better than what the N52 already has? would exhaust cams fit on the intake side? (this can work, such as the M50 where you use the S50 intake cam and move the M50 intake cam to the exhaust side).

No i think they will fit, but the durations are probably better suited to a turbo motor. So perhaps you could use two intake or two exhaust cams instead of the split duration.

The idea is to increase the engine's compression to 11.5:1 so the head'll get skimmed and custom CP pistons will be necessary for valve clearance, all to gain power with Sunoco 260 GT. Honestly, I have no idea how this would impact cam design or if these cam options would be usable. I can ask though, thanks for the suggestion.

FYI - cams are ready to ship. No installation scheduled yet though, waiting on the roof and Aero pkg parts to ship. Radiator ships tomorrow, Ultra Racing strut tower cross-bar shipped yesterday. Radiator hoses still in limbo with Samco.
