HEY! I've got 8.5" 161s all around too!

I'm running 245/45/17's though. They look incredibly meaty.

When these wear out I'll probably switch to either 235 or 245 in a 45 ratio.

It will be a while, my Goodyear Eagles are fairly new.

But I'll probably switch to the Continental Pure Contacts. I have those on my 16" rims now and they are a great long distance road tire.

It's hard to get it right.
I like the look of rear tyres on the new Dodge Demon.
And I like the meaty tyres on the Volk racing rims.
But as for all the others, not that much

Here's a video of a Mini that looks OK:

Got General AS-05 245/45/17 put on the other week....

Love the ride but it did take a bit to get the air pressures just right.

Personal opinion, I like it.
I do think the whole stretched tire on rim with excessive camber just to fit under the fender so my car looks cool trend is rather dumb. As in a, "let's totally f up the suspension geometry, ride, and handling charecterics, so my car looks like a cartoon" kinda dumb.

It was mentioned in a post above that it is important to have your tire and wheel width similar. Square sidewalls look more "meaty" than stretched.

Agreed. Pics of the car you posted appear much too stretched...not a good look.

Do you think this is a good alternative too? I think it has its own merits, 17' or 18' wheels easier to fit, more comfy high profile tires, more street and track friendly and even cheaper to buy than a low profile 19' tires

What's your opinion guys and gals?

I was looking at something like this:
just a few things to consider about the question asked and the reference pix...

1) both those cars are wider running wider wheels.
2) both have clearance for meaty tires

m3 is obviously running 18x10 +25 fitment

the black WTCC widebody is running the same if not wider with an even lower offset. the hardsport widebody is similar other than its not molded and they are running 18x11 +0 and claims to still have room to play with.

Meaty tires... who needs those??

We're running 295 rears with the Hard Motorsports Leichtbau WB (below)

z3Ro with proper offset and some pretty extensive tweaking to the Hard kit, you can likely fit a 315/325 rear. The limitation for anyone wanting to fit some real meat on the e90 comes from the front. Beyond the fender rub issue which can be corrected with a widebody, there is a firewall limitation if you're wanting to run any real width upfront (265 or wider).

Here's a breakdown on max tire widths for the FRONT for an e90 (assuming correct offset):
245 or under: No modifications needed
255: Possible fender roll (depending on suspension setup/drop)
265 - 285: Widebody/cut fenders + cut out firewall seam weld
295+: Widebody + extensive modification to firewall

^^^ When running a 265 or higher tire, you may will either need to add a spacer or run a lower offset wheel, thus pushing the wheel outward and increasing the radius of the outer part of the wheel. This increased radius pushes the outer part of the wheel beyond OE spec and into parts of the firewall when wheel is turned.

There are more than a few peeps running 265 on 18s with nothing more than spacers and a bit of extra camber.

Further, there's a guy running 275/40/17 r-comps on an E92 w/ the only modification being -3* of camber up front.

Oh of course lol. i definitely dont doubt that. with money anything is possible. all i was trying to point out was the 2 pictures in comparison to a stock setup. i hope the original poster knew that.

This past year i started to like a thicker tire setup for comfort and the pleasent amount of rubber I see on the wheels.
