Same thing here. I actually brought my car into the dealer today for this, they said it was injectors.

I know it's not injector noise and I would get the same noise as you in the beginning of the vid. Typically after a decent drive and being warmed up.

Looks like it's gonna be turbo solenoids.

Thanks for the info guys.

Did the sound permanently stop after you hit it a few times? Or would I still need to replace the parts.

Also, how serious is this problem? Something I need to resolve quickly?

The tapping didn't come back, but I did not put many miles on it before swapping the solenoids. I would not trust it to be a permanent fix.

I've had it for 2 yrs now, did everything from intake walnut blasting to thicker oil, solenoid swap etc ... the only think that kinda works is if you run the car at higher RPM for 30 mins or so it settle it down for a week or so ... Also I observed it doesn't do it in winters (I haven't heard it all jan here in chicago) so I bet you its heat related, I also run with under shield removed and no engine acoustic cover ... engine oil temp these days is under 200 and didn't hear a single tick

My car makes the same noise and I only hear it through drive throughs. After some research I'm pretty sure it's the fuel evap line that connects to the throttle body. But the noise really doesn't bother me much so i haven't paid for the $70 to see if it was actually the problem.

Recently started getting which I believe is the same noise.

I believe it may be an issue with a pulley. Goes away, and comes back randomly. I cannot reproduce the noise.
I think its a pulley by the sound of it and also because I have the oil filter housing seeping oil.

Check out the video let me know what you think the sound only happens for the first :03 seconds of the video.

Boost solenoid.

When my pulley caused a ticking noise, I could visibly see that half of my pulley had shredded and the ticks increased in frequency with higher RPM. Mine was caused by a rock stuck in the power steering pulley.

i heard this for the 1st time last night and it scared the shit outta me.. boost solenoid sounds about right. i say this because upon dropping my hood, the sound stopped immediately - which would be the same as tapping the solenoid with a screwdriver.. im convinced this is the issue now after reading this.. (i agree it sounds deadly though)

edit: 111k on the clock btw just for ref.

Would boost silinoids effect drive ability? Mine tends to boost then not then kick in hard. I have had this sound for a long time, along with these driving Simpsons.

Theres a thread about this around here somewhere. It has to do with the lifter assembly having air in there and not being properly lubricated. When the engine is up to temp and the oil is then at its thinnest, it is hard to keep it up on top of the lifter assembly at idle RPMs. This is why with one quick jump in RPMs the noise will go away then after a little delay come back again but only after the car is warm.

IF the ticking goes away when you blip the throttle it's normal, it's the fuel pressure release valve.

now that im thinking about this though, why would the boost solenoid be actuating at idol ? .. and if it is the oil starvation thing up top, best practice is to turn the car off after its at temp when running in stores or whatever then ?

Boost solenoid.
Hit both boost solenoids and it does not make the noise go away. When taking a better look at the noise it sounds like it's coming from under the intake manifold, possibly hpfp or something else under there.
