Sadly, I've never had a car with tires wider than 255! lol And I do love meaty tires. One day, I'm gonna be riding on 335's in the rear, maybe 285's in the front. mark my words!

Idk depends on the car and the setup. I've seen some BMW's where it is done right and some where it wasn't. For the most part I think it looks pretty good though

No rubbing, and no fender roll required. The rear wheels are 18x9.5 ET35. The tires in this pic are Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Love those, but looking forward to trying out the Pilot Sport 4S for my next set.
This pic is of my old '08 328i (RWD, 6MT, sedan with sport suspension)that got wrecked last summer. I haven't tried installing this combo on my '06 330i (also RWD, 6MT, sedan with sport suspension), but I don't see any reason for any fitment issues. Cheers! [QUOTE=Clammy;25967520]Thanks man. I really love the look, and the performance of the tires is off the charts, too. They glue the car to the road, and have good tread life (The PS 4S are supposed to have all the performance, with even better tread life) So it's totally a win-win. I can't wait to try this setup on my 330i. Unfortunately, that will have to wait for all this virus crap to be done...
Cheers! [/QUO This is my setup on my 328i 2009 I want that squared tapered tire fitment like yours but I dont know how to do it with these rims! |

Pic from last year.. 245/40/17 square on 9.5 Apex Arc-8s I would go at least 255 next set. These wheels were from an E36 M3 hence the odd size, they fit well enough with a spacer on this car tho.
I'm not sure how wide the front can handle without running into the strut or fender. I wouldn't call this really beefy or ideal but I got a good deal. : |

No rubbing how it is now, maybe if I lowered it. The rear can take a much wider tire. Rear is spaced somehow I forget the number, but it was for more for looks not because it was needed.
Front doesn't rub but needs a 3mm or 5mm or the rim will rub against the inside strut with this wheel offset. No extra camber. My worry is if the tire is too fat it may scrub the inside. |

Old thread that popped up. Have no read it all but weighing in....
No Wider tires almost always degrade the way a car drives/feels. Same for anything less than a 40 series sidewall. Wide tires are a must, and will make a car faster on a race track. But for putting around on public streets anything that deviates much from the OE offset and width will diminish the experience. Not to sound too curmudgeonly, but any driving on public roads in the zone beyond what the 205s the car came with are capable of, but within capability of 255s, is braindead stupid. I get that some only have one set of wheels, or some prefer the look, and that careful choice of size and offset can work out well pretty well... but It's always a compromise.

I guess more in-line with the discussion: Tires that are too wide for the wheel...
It depends a lot on the tire. Some are more tolerant than others. Off the top of my head, A052 need a wider drum, and are just awful if pinched up. eg: 255s need 9.5" minimum, better on 10" A lot of tires come with 'step out' beads for a better fit on more narrow wheels. They typically have a stiffer carcass as well. My preference (all other things equal) is for a 'straight' bead with a softer carcass on a wheel wide enough to support it... If one can afford such wheels.

Nice I was thinking about my wheel setup this weekend, this bumped thread will help.
I currently have style 193 rep 17''. But I'm hesitating : - 18'' style 193 meaty - keep 17'' style 193 Ultra meaty. What size will fill the wheel well on a stock height? Any calculator? My summer car has 19'' 235-35, on lowered suspension and poly bushing and engine mount. I like it very much, but I leave probably where the road are the worst in n/a. Also will help on the sleeper status. |

When trying to fit max tire widths into track cars I generally fall back on a tape measure, pencil and paper.
Fit up some known wheels and tires, use a tape measure and feeler gauges to figure out where there is space then sketch it out on a piece of paper. Tire Rack's detailed specs are a life-saver in this respect. Wheel width will affect section width and clearance a little and it takes some experience to get a sense of it. Get those fender rollers on order ------------ Ninja Edit Having access to an alignment lift is REALLY helpful.
