From an owner of a hydraulic steering (M3) and electric steering ( new X3) The steering on the X3 is horrible Damn, even the recirculating ball steering I had on my Chrysler crossover was better than the X3 No feel And the whole variable assistance sucks Nothing ruins your confidence in a car like when you're cornering, and suddenly the car starts to change it's line because the stupid computer "thought" this ratio is now better for you There is only one advantage to electric steering , less power loss Period. Anyone that tells you otherwise is misguided, or lying.

If BMW is really ready to sacrifice the entire driving feel of the 3 series to save a few bucks on steering components, then the beancounters have finally won.

i thought it was pretty funny to see how quickly it got eaten up by the R8. yikes that was quick. not a comment on the 3 at all...not designed to compete...just a comment on the wicked german kin.

I'm sure pushing the car even further could only mean increasing the risk of an accident... and that would be bad press, especially if it got tangled up with the R8.

Do you see any competition at the video? This is just testing work. There are safety rules at the Nordshleife, and in the situation of usual non-competition driving, slower cars shoud let the road to the quicker ones. Otherwise there will be a shit that the slower Ferrari made at Le Mans this year, stopping the race for two quicker Audi R18, making the race driving more than 3 hours under safety car. You can clearly see the right signal turned on by F30 driver, and clear move to the right border according to the driving rules at the track. |

As a MY 11 F10 owner, the new 3 is my last hope of BMW producing a car that is good to drive. Previous E46 & E60 were fantastic in comparison to my F10. As said a few times already the electronic steering sucks, and in SE trim (even with VDC) the additional size and weight of the car mean it will never be more than a cruiser. BMW - don't get the F30 wrong...............

I think all this platform sharing is the problem, how can you get an F10 to feel like "a proper 5-Series" when it shares so much with the 7/6/X5 and RR Ghost. Likewise for the F30 and it even shares its platform with the next MINI. I hope they optimsed the platform for the F30 and let the other models be compromised?

I don't get it.. you think he was trying to compete with an R8 in a car that hasn't even been announced while being filmed? I don't see how you would ever think he was, BUT if for some reason you thought he was pushing it, that goes out the window when u see the blinker flip on
