Not overall, specific rear luggage space, 5 vs 8.
You realize that rear loading capacity is measured with the seats down? What I'm saying is that I think when you have four passengers on board. Actual usable rear luggage space is less in the GT.

Wow..
Yeah, you're right, I'm surprised by the 5 vs 8 difference just for 3 inches of load floor height.

I was just guessing on the load floor height difference of 3". Obviously the F31 is lower, but I had to eyeball the difference based on the comparo pictures. |

They only scored it based on the height of the trunk lower lip. 4" difference, slightly more difficult to load heavy stuff. Do you really consider this significant?

Included spreadsheet.

I'm assuming that "loaded" is the translation for the category that has to do with carrying capacity and general ease of handling cargo. |

Not for me...
It's not significant for me. But for someone who is buying this for increased flexibility in carrying things it might be. If a review looks at a product in a category of carrying or cargo capacity and gives it a rating of 5 vs 8, then I would be concerned if this was a feature of interest. Wouldn't you?

So it's taller and heavier than the F31. I'm sure then it will drive better.
Who cares. Now that there's no MT option for these types of cars, I'm shopping all versions. |

Good god, BMW...sigh. Aztec rear end look alike.
Who cares if the GT has a little more room, here and there - it's hideous. Touring all the way. |

3 GT
I went onto the Auto Bild web site to view the article myself. I don't speak German but Google helped with that. There was nothing about the ride and handling combination. It was more about the look and practical features of the car. I saw that the full article could be downloaded for 2 euro. I wouldn't mind paying the 2 euro, but as indicated, I don't understand German. Has anybody read the full article? What were the comments about ride / handling / comfort / quiet of the drive?

Side by side, the GT is a tall, fat, porky-looking SUV compared to the low, sleek, sporty F31 -- but Americans these days like driving fat, porky SUVs with BigFoot truck tires, even if their load capacity is only negligibly larger than the F31, so it'll probably sell. |

For customers of the BMW 3er Gran Turismo this would be the deal breaker.

Compared to an SUV, the GT is sleek. Low? Who the heck wants low? Low cars are a dime a dozen and hard to get in and out of. Station wagon lovers diss'ing the GT only affirms it's good looks.

If I wanted rear leg room, then I would just get a F10.

Remove the fancy GT sticker and it reads hatchback. Just like my beloved Citroen Xsara 1.6l
