The one in the reddit post is only rated up to 100*C. I wouldnt use that for this application as we all know our oil runs over that. Seems like viton would be a much better material choice.
https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Ring-3X37-...18&sr=8-3&th=1 I would guess this standard o-ring would work as well. https://www.amazon.com/220-Viton-Rin...ustrial&sr=1-1 |

Hi guys,
I am also facing oil thermostat gasket leak and was doing some research on the internet. I found this post which was very helpful. So I started to look for Viton 43mm x 3mm o'ring. I was able to found that BMW make this o'ring as replacement part for K series motorcycles water pump I guess. Replacement part is called "O-RING 43X3-N-FPM 85" and OEM part number is 07 11 9 905 382. So I will try to order it at my local BMW dealer and hope that it will fit. I will update how it goes after installation. Also, maybe anyone know if this gasket is the same for F series chassis? |

By chance do you or anyone else here know if the thermostat gasket leak will mask itself as a oil cooler o ring sweating?? the drivers side one mainly. One single drop of oil. |

Any idea about the torque spec for the screws? I replaced the old one with the viton gasket, torqued the bolts to 16.5 Nm slowly, weeping at idle. I am afraid to over tighten and snap the screws...

As of January 2024 I have four extra o-rings since the minimum order was 5 (for $16 including overnight shipping.) Happy to share if anyone needs one, no charge, just PM me. Last edited by lowrydr310; 01-04-2024 at 12:06 AM.. |

Hey guys Im a new bmw owner
and I just replaced OFHG on my e92 335i (n55) I made the mistake of opening the thermostat lid so now I have a leak there My question is probably a dumb one... but do I drain fluids again to replace this gasket??? I just put fluids in as well as bled coolant and primed the engine |

I did the 2 OFHGs on my 2012 135i N55, but after a few months I saw a buildup of grime from the oil cooler thermostat cap.
So I got some FKM fluoro-rubber O-rings from AliExpress. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806543028225.html OD 43mm, ID 37mm, CS 3mm. I got 5 for $1.83. [UPDATE] These AliExpress O-rings started to weep again after 2 months. Luckily I found that Elring now makes the octagon shaped gasket, part number 074.860. I didn't know what the torque spec was for the T30 bolts for the thermostat cap, so I did 10 Nm or 89 inch-lb. I went on a test drive with some full throttle runs and the oil temp got to 240F, and it seems fine with no leaks. I will update this later if it does leak. Octagonal gasket is in stock at FCP Euro. Rockauto also has it but it is out of stock at the moment.
Stubbie Blue thanks for the update and for finding out the Erling part! https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...elring-074-860 I'm still runing a round Viton o-ring and no issues. Last edited by Wolf 335; 06-10-2024 at 10:34 AM.. |
