Saw the new 4 coupe with and without the LEDs. I can say I'm going to get the standard xenons. They pretty much look the same. I'd rather save the 1,900 for a pair of OZ wheels.

I rather have all the navigation apps and HK sound system than LED lights.

So I guess the consensus is that they definitely look cool, but they don't output more light? I see no indication or specification that these actually improve the light output versus xenons. Am I wrong?

LED headlights
Quote:
"The Adaptive LED Headlight comprises an accent light, low-beam and high-beam function, anti-dazzle high-beam headlights, LED fog lights, cornering light, turn indicators, daytime driving lights and Adaptive Headlight with variable light control. Light distribution is automatically adapted to match speed and depends on the steering angle. The colour of the light is similar to daylight: together with optimum, homogeneous illumination of the road, this improves visibility so as to eliminate fatigue when driving at night. The four headlamp light rings ensure a distinctive appearance."

FYI, my order form shows option 5AP (Decoding for no-dazzle high-beam..)
Here is an interesting discussion I found about enabling the feature: LINK

From what I have seen in the US price guide, if you want the 5AC - Automatic high beams the only way to get it is to order the ZLP package. So, it is going cost $1900.00 if you want to code the really cool beam aiming. No luck for us that are happy with the Xenon but want to activate the cool beam steering stuff via coding.

In Canada you need to pay $2000 for the LED and then add the Technology pack for another $1500 to get the High Beam assist |

We seem to have a lot less packages in the UK than you guys in Canada and US. High beam assist is a stand alone option here as is HUD, HK stereo and many other features although I imagine that speccing the car up on the same options you get in your package would end up more expensive. Think I prefer being able to pick and choose options individually though.

Looking at prices from the UK and Belgian configurators as well as the option/price listing for Canada and the US, it is not straightforward to correlate prices because options seem to be priced very differently depending on the country. However, it does not seem we are getting any sort of "rebate" through the packages. BMW only "forces" us to bundle options and charges us with the big bucks Last edited by CanAutM3; 03-12-2014 at 04:35 PM.. |

Xenons are so 1980'ies now... LED lights are the new Xenons. And the latest and greatest is Laser lights!!! The i8 will be the first car with laser headlights.
LED lights are technologically way better than Xenons. Provide better lighting, use less current, weigh less, last longer and looks better (subjective point of view). Do you really want to have a car with what amounts to todays equivalent of halogen headlights? Xenons will soon be considered so yesterday... Just like halogen headlights is. And about adaptive headlights and oncoming traffic flashing you. The same happened when Xenons came because others weren't used to the bright light and thought you had main beams on. It HAS been tested and approved according to EU standards so it works! |

EU standards don't apply here in NA, so it's a moot argument. |

Xenons are made and developed by subcontractors. Same with LED and Laser lights. Meaning that BMW has access to the same tech as other auto manufacturers. Don't feel that the Xenons on my F10 is better than on most other cars I drive with Xenons. LED lights are a notch above Xenons IMHO and in my limited experience with them. A few years ago we had: Halogen and Xenons Now we have: Halogen, Xenons and LED Later this year we will have: Halogen, Xenons, LED and Laser Pretty soon Xenon will be three generations old light tech... The argument about adaptive lighting was a response to others that had made comments on it being annoying to other drivers. Not a comment on US vs EU law. |

LED Lights?? We don't need no stinkin LED lights..
All I need is a manual transmission and a premium sound, I personally don't like any luxury features in an M3. Even having a free nav is a bit of a turn off.

LED vs. Xenon
I have placed an ED order for an M3 and still have time to modify it. I am trying to justify every option I am getting in terms of need and use. Can anyone tell me why I should be paying $2K for the LED vs the Xenons?
