LOL. good point.

0-0mph in 3 hrs waiting for the AA.

Anyway, are you calling me a 'usual' - I don't recall saying the 335i is better?

IMO there is no need to state the obvious

Surely anyone with half a brain knows there is a 'pecking' order of our beloved cars engine wise.(not getting into gearbox or SE/Msport debate or coupe/saloon/hearse/vert debate)

Top Dog = M3

Then, in order

335i
335d
330d
330i
325d
325i
320d
320i

then some eco chariots

Job done

Interesting you put the 'i' above the 'd' in the 335's but the other way round for the rest; wouldn't the pattern follow all the way down the list??

I think it is recognised that the 335i is an award winning engine

Lower down the pecking order I surmise the diesels are slightly better then their equivalents

Plus I have a 335i and I said so

The 335i is above the 335d because it costs more to run and tax and far more to look after once it starts to break down.

However a d is more expensive to buy and was once owned by BMW legend Sir Carlos of DXB. So it gets a few more points. All in all, it's about even.

I completely agree, if, when you say 'even', you mean 'the i still wins by a few points'

Mainly due to having the far superior manual gearbox

Oh, this thread is fun...

Superior in that if it was used with a 35d engine, it would fall to bits? Whereas the 35d 'box easily copes with over 500lbs-ft?

Having had both 'engines' I'd say the 35i is the sweeter, without doubt!

I never once had the 135i into BMW mate.... Well, I had one service and had them fix the ashtray under warranty as I had snapped something off it whilst trying to wrap it in CF...

The 335d was basically the same... Went in for a couple of things, neither of which was engine related.

What a load of bollocks.

I appreciate you will defend your car 'to the death' (whilst simultaneously slagging off anyone whose car doesn't fit you far-too-often spoken about lifestyle) but please don't try to force-feed me your bullshit.

The fact that you assume people on here will believe whatever comes out of your mouth simply because you choose to state it is fact is more offensive and irritating than your general attitude.

Independant test states E90 335d 0-100mph time @ 13.7 seconds.
The same testing body states (using your example) Impreza STi is a second quicker at 12.7

The original Subaru Impreza turbo did 0-100mph in under 15 seconds.

And that's ignorning there are are north of half a dozen factory spec "rally replica's" (not aftermarket tuned) from various manufacturers that could send you home with your ass in a sling in a straight line, let alone when some bends are thrown into the mix.

I appreciate you're trying to make 335d friends, and think that by proclaiming your car to the best and rubbishing those of others you'll get a few people on-side and hopefully we'll all forget that terribly embarrassing point at which you were being ridiculed so much you threw your teddies from the surfboard and left us in peace for a while.

BUT, some of us here are (knowledgeable) general car enthusiasts, not just E9*'s, so please don't mug us off with pub-talk garbage just so you can make some friends. It smacks of playground desperation to avoid being bullied.

And, thinking about this a little more, why is an Impreza driver automatically labelled a chav?

You don't like it when you're labelled a boring, slap head with sofa castors where you wheels should be - quite the opposite, you get on your high horse and defend your choices, because they fit your lifetsyle and how we're all wrong for having large wheels.

If you use the statement (and I'm paraphrasing, but it's close enough) "We're all individuals, we all have different requirements of our cars and this meets mine, don't judge my car choice" is it not massively hypocritical to then go and do exactly that yourself?

Perhaps the Impreza driver has lifestyle requirements that demand he drives that car, or somthing similar? Perhaps he doesn't want to afflicted with part of the "BMW wanker" stereotype, which, given a lot of your posts, its clear this is a live and kicking.

Sheps - I have no idea what has rattled your cage but why the vitriol?

The ORIGINAL Impreza was quicker than the current WRX actually. Much lighter you see.

And please show me your INDEPENDENT tests.

Here, I have one:

Ooh hang on - the readers car seems to be 13.3 seconds to 60.

Oh and look here from Evo:

Subaru claims 0-60mph in 4.8sec and 0-100 in 14.1 (for the PPP pack version) (we recorded 5.7 and 15.7 for the standard WRX) and neither seems far-fetched. It's the mid-range muscle that really does it. Whatever the gear, it kicks furiously from around 3500rpm and maintains a solid shove to 6000rpm, though from that point it starts to tail off.

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...u_impreza.html

So even the PPP pack version is slower to 100.

Now any more pointless ranting and BS unsubstantiated claims to try and fling at me then Sheps?

Thought not.

Oh and look - http://fastestlaps.com/track44.html

The 335d is not listed here but it beat the 335i by 0.1s to get 1.22.7. The STI you harp on about gets a mere 0.3 seconds better.

A standard WRX is right at the BOTTOM of the table with 1.30.30.

Better luck next time Sheps.
