Hi all, I am wondering how many volts is the ambient light? do you guys know???????

And I assume that if I know the volt of ambient light, can I buy a LED strip with same volt and make it brighter?
Thanks

The way the lights work, there is an internal circuit that sinks the current through the LED and resistor, allowing it to light. You can think of it like a switch that shorts the other side to ground, but in reality there's a limit on how much current it can sink. Most LED strips need a lot of current and I doubt the circuit that operates the OEM led module can deal with that much current. There are ways to make an LED strip work, but you'd have to retire and/or add circuitry to power it. Not really worth the trouble I don't think.

Hey Daniel...what's the technique for opening the light module? I see there are four tabs you need to pry to get it open but I don't want to break them. Is there a technique you can share?

I picked up a couple of the new modules. I'm gonna swap them in but I ordered some different LEDs and resistors to experiment with the old ones. I'm going to see if I can get it even brighter.

Does it mean it is possible to change the original LED module to LED strip if I can find a same socket with the original socket? just plug and play like that? right?

Do you mean this one?
I've tried open the edge of the LED module like the following photos.

No, it is extremely unlikely there is anything close to plug and play replacement. Electrically, an LED strip needs a lot more current. It's possible to wire in one by tapping into the existing lines, but you'd have to add a small circuit of your own. None of this exists. You'd have to make it yourself. Physically I don't see an easy way to retrofit an led strip cleanly. I mean you could just stick it on top of the light pipe but it wouldn't look good.

Oh I see, you cut the little hinge on the end. I was trying to avoid that. I guess I'll have to get out a vise and an extra set of hands to get it open cleanly.

Anyone manage to get the dealer to replace them as deflective? I am going to try to ask them when I take my car in for service. Since there are two part numbers its easier to ask. I doubt they will do it, but doesn't hurt to ask

Chinese made it for 3 series Li only, but they can cut the door trim in order to fit f30 and f34, it doesn't fit to f30 and f34 perfectly. I asked them send me their product, however, they said unless I pay for their staff and the air ticket, otherwise they won't send me their product.

Whats that for kinda nonsens? The seller wont sell unless you pay additionally for foreign installation of his staff like you did before? Ridiculous...

So if you buy another set of the items you'll get them only if the whole lot of the MFR is invited to install elsewhere again? Man...

Dunno how. The trims are fixed behind the cover with one-way rivets and get changed after mod with self cutting screws which are going into the new trim lines...

Extra Door lighting strip

Hi Gents

I've just installed this lighting strip, which I bought really cheap off e-bay..
quite fiddly to fit with a few small slots/cuts in to the door trim, but the overall affect is quite good, only one draw back...its permanently red, even in the day light...
I had to wire them into the electric window switches, because i originally wired them in to the led module wiring, but they made the ambient lights flash and then cut out, not sure why?, but so far no issue with the window switches, they even dim with the dashboard light dimmer control.
