That is a good question dextuar

To me, when I got the exhaust installed, I was fortunate enough to be able to drive it without the tune installed and wasn't too impressed with how it sounded. Once I got the tune installed, to me...I can't speak for everyone...the exhaust sounded much better, a lot meaner and the growl was very pronounced. I could be wrong and all that. But that is just my observation.

Could also see how the car feels with the tune for a month, then add the stage 1 tune from MHD and feel the difference. Or go straight to stage 1. I really think this is all personal preference.

How does the exhaust sound now to you?

I'd recommend having the dealer install the MPPSK tune then if you want to you can upgrade to MHD. I know BM3 backs up your stock tune so you can revert to it to go stock which I'm assuming MHD does the same thing. So if you ever want to flash back to stock you still have a great sounding tune with some extra pep and you're not totally stock. If making some side money isn't an issue that's my 2 cents.

I am thinking only the dealer can do the true mppsk tune. At least with me, when I had the mppsk installed they registered the tune with bmw. There is a code in the kit that I thought could only be official regisistered through bmw, at least if you want bmw to acknowledge the tune on that car. Now I am sure there are other ways to go. Good luck. I agree with the comments above. Get it set by bmw and have the mppsk as your new stock set up.

Correct only BMW can install the MPPSK tune.

Was in St. Lucia for the past 1.5 weeks and saw a lot of BMW's. Very surprising. There was 1 BMW dealer that I saw. Ended up seeing a few X5M's, 3 series and older models all modded out.

Made me miss my 340i. Couldn't wait to drive my car when I got back into the states this past Saturday. Definitely missed the feel of the car and the exhaust note! Very happy to be home and driving my car again. Nothing like taking a big diesel van everywhere to the different Sandals resorts. (30-40mins to get to each one.)

Does the MPPSK allow enough airflow for a Stage 2 OTS map? Mostly concerned from a mechanical sympathy POV rather than extracting maximum performance, as I understand catless or high flow catted are the way to go for that.

No. The bottleneck is the downpipe, not the exhaust. The MPPSK exhaust certainly controbutes but is far from enough on its own.

Why would it not be covered by warranty? How long ago was it?

Random praise of the MPPSK, I had a young hottie in my car the other night and she said the sound of the car with the valves open made her wet lol. She liked my car so took her for a spin with the windows rolled down.

I believe the warranty period for the MPPSK is the remainder of the original 4 year warranty if the car was ordered with it or 2 years after installation if installed later.

Might have to contact the previous owner if they want any info on it. I don't know when it was bought so I have no idea if it's still under warranty. Could they check the serial number to see when it was purchased?

BMW will have a record of when it was installed. I have a sticker on the bottom of my hood near the front with the installation date but not sure if that's standard operation procedure or if that just happens with port installs.

mine wasn't port installed and I think the previous owner bought the exhaust only, no tune. Either bought it from a dealer or an OEM site or something

If BMW didn't install it the warranty won't cover it. I'd contact your local dealer and ask. If you had the MPPSK tune you would definitely know lol no mistaking that beautiful sound.

Standard procedure as per MPPSK installation manual.

Just got my replacement MPPSK muffler today, unfortunately with no warranty coverage. I guess that solves it it’s weird how I was the only one with the issue

I get the lovely "brap" sound when I'm in Sport+ and use the paddle shifters to quickly upshift to 2nd and 3rd gear at about 3.5k RPMs. I can't seem to get the same effect shifting to 4th or 5th. Does anyone get the "brap" at higher gears?

Just tried from 4 to 5. It does it but you need to rev higher (full throttle).

Sounds Great!
But very expensive for what it is.
Paid around 3k for the MPPSK. Sounds good , but slightly more quiet than I was expecting. Paired with a Catless Downpipe from VRSF, and it sounds amazing.
Smell is horrible though , even at stop lights with the windows down in sport mode, it would be burning my nose.

Indeed it does sound wonderful. Compared to axle backs it's expensive but it's pretty on par with other cat back exhausts maybe a little more expensive but it's OEM and doesn't affect your warranty. With the MPPSK you no longer have to listen to music just roll down your window and enjoy the music from your exhaust note! Enjoy your new toy!

I roll around in Sport+ mode all the time lol. The sound is pure bliss. Getting an aftermarket tune for more power eventually is tempting but not really sure losing that BMW tuned perfected exhaust note is worth it. Adding a JB4 etc may be the best bet.

This post is for another member that requested pictures of the MPPSK badge location in the engine bay. Mine is installed on the engine cover.

I also found and attached the official BMW documentation on how to install the MPPSK and it confirms the location of my badge which was port installed is in the recommended location (unless otherwise requested by the customer).
