Angry Do NOT run over debris!

I was on the I-5 North yesterday afternoon and ran over a cargo strap with an enormous hook/fastener. A heavy duty one you'd see on an 18-wheeler. And I couldn't avoid it. It was either swerve and hit some one on my left or my right or run over it. So, it's headed to the body shop this morning for a few weeks...Brecht Collision Center (which is owned by BMW of Escondido). So, when it's done, it will be with brand new BMW parts.

The damage below...

Same happened to me. I always rent a car when leaving town for business, so I was in a Chevy and the guy in front of me hit a piece of a truck tire. Hit the front of the car, bounced off the bonnet, then hit the rear view mirror. Didn't think anything of it until I hit traffic 30 minutes later. Engine started overheating and I pulled over on the shoulder. Looked at the front of the car and the front end was damaged, including the radiator busted with the coolant leaking out. Had to get it towed.

Not sure why it's funny.

Out of curiosity, could you have just slammed on the brakes?

Luckily there was no leaks. So, I can drive it. But I'm driving it right to the shop this morning.

No. I was doing about 70 mph and there was a pick-up in front of me. Didn't see it until it was too late. Plus, I was the #2 lane on the freeway. If I stopped, I would've had a Durango in my back seat.

I've been in a similar situation before, OP. Can't move left, can't move right so you just gotta run it over. Sucks but better safe than sorry. Good luck with your fixes

The first picture didn't look too bad, but it got worse and worse. Shit happens, you made a good decision not to swerve could of ended even worse than that. Best of luck

Slamming on the brakes would be even worse, especially if theres a car behind you.

You have pictures so see if you sue the city for not maintaining the freeway. I know you can for potholes or trees that are not maintained by the city.

Similar thing happened to me. In my case it was a plastic chair. I tried to go around it but could not. I loved how the bimmer handled the swerve within same lane well kind of and was back on control right away. Good thing nobody was on my side at that particular moment. I had a blue color scratch on my front side bumper which I removed by buffering it out.

I myself try not to make it a habit, although every once in awhile I do love me some debris, truth be known

Just trying to keep your spirits up bud!

Seriously though, once I ran over something that I thought was going to obliterate my car...as I got closer- POOF! It was only a puffed up black tarp. Sucks man, especially when you're in that position where there is a divider to your left and a semi to your right and wtf in front of you. Sorry to hear brother.

I did 500 dollars damage to my previous car when a hubcap decided to roll across the freeway.
