BMW 9 Series Concept Rumored for Beijing Car Show
BIMMERPOST NEWS Report: BMW to preview first-ever 9-Series at Beijing Car Show If a recent report from German Auto Motor und Sport is to be believed, BMW will showcase another large luxury concept car at the upcoming Beijing Car Show starting April 20th. After last year's Gran Lusso concept which previewed a possible large coupe like the possible revival of the 8-series, AMS has allegedly learned that BMW is about to unveil a 9-series concept car shortly. This concept car is also said to preview a new generation of BMW's interior design to debut in the all-new 2016 BMW 7-series (internally dubbed G11). As the concept car debut in China suggests, one of the possibly largest markets for a car like the 9-series (and the 8-series) would be China. Technically, these cars would be based on the new 7-series platform which is not only more modular but also more lightweight than ever before. The new Rolls Royce Phantom due in 2016 will be based on the same platform. Following BMW's usual nomenclature (ignoring 'marketing wins over consistency'-decisions as the 2-series Active Tourer), the 9-series likely would be a very large sedan sitting between the 7-series and the Rolls Royce Phantom. Stay tuned for more information in the coming days. [Source: Auto Motor und Sport] |

Its our new DNA concept.
Its a concept that alludes to BMWs vision of the luxury market in three proposals. A luxury sedan , luxury SAV , luxury Coupe. It's not a hybrid of merging body shells to form a new niche as you would expect from BMW. But it gives clues to the DNA and vision that will be found in three upcoming specific BMW luxury models. Its an entirely new vision that showcases Many advances through engineering , design , technology and connectivity. And it is going to be a reality....in 2015. Then in 2017. But it is going to filter down the model lines.

X7 concept does seem much more plausible than the a 9-series Grand Coupe XXL...either way the Chinese do like big cars and both would sell well there.
So Scott you're saying X7 (previously announced) for MY16 and then a possible Grand Lusso- type large grand coupe car slotting above the top-range 7er for MY18? Very exciting.

I own a BMW 435 m sport, and I love it. So no, I'm not just being a "hater"...with that being said, BMW is lowkey getting on my nerves! All these damn models. It's turning into the Walmart of vehicle brands; just throwing out as many freaking models as possible all for $$$ sake. Just slow down, reel in the money grubbing big wigs, and focus on making the "ultimate driving machine"! Kudos on the 2-series and 4-series (although the nomenclature was a completely effed up move IMO). But the new X's for example (primarily the fugly X1 and unnecessary X4), and now this 9-series?!?! It's just killing and watering down the brand. Wtf does 2015 have in store???? "Introducing the new X17 and 23-series"....FOH!

most big companies are for profit.
why would you expect them to do anything otherwise? Building the "ultimate driving machine" makes them money (for example the 2 and the 4 like you said), and also by just building cars for a particular market (china) that would sell and make more money than just producing the 2 and the 4 alone. This funds much more money to r&d, so they can produce the cars for your "enthusiast" demographic and make them to your high expectations of what your bmw should be like. I think the "enthusiast" crowd sometimes forget they are not the only people buying their favorite brand. there are other people that value other things. if you they don't make anyone more money or very little by just selling 2 and 4s, i think they would be terrible cars.

Doesn't anyone get tired of the negative reasoning that is so common here:"I own model xyz, why does BMW also offer model mno?"
Buy and drive the car you like; realize your needs/preferences/budget do not encompass the entire market, and relax about models not relevant to you. It's so tiresome to see consumers so determined that choice is negative and involves watering down the brand. If your needs are that bespoke,BMW, a mass market brand, is clearly not for you. Mclaren is more than am happy to look after your needs I'm sure! |

There are people out there with money to buy things, and especially with newer modular design, it's much easier to tweak a chassis to meet different needs. It doesn't bother me in the least that they have multiple models...just like going out to buy clothes, there's lots of styles and colors and sizes...the same thing does not appeal to everyone. If you think it should, you're pretty short-sighted. Personally, while I may only choose a couple of different flavors of ice cream, I appreciate that there are a lot of choices...same with cars.

Just hope it doesn't look like the gran lusso. Other wise who cares. China is their biggest future market. They would be stupid not to give them what they want. Just like they did will SUVs and crossovers here.

Thats what im talking about..i dont care if BMW keeps making more models to expand its line of flavors..as long as they keep using the ingredient that made them what they are known for, and that one flavor that everyone loved..but it seems that they dont really care anymore about using the best ingredients to produce their ice cream, nor make the best flavor that they used to make. |
