F30 N20 timing chain issues
Hi guys, I just read some articles about BMW redesigns their timing chain for the N20 engine. does anyone know the difference between the used timing chain before 2015 and the new timing chain after 2015? or anyone changed it before?
I owned a 2014 BMW 320i with 67k now, no issues so far. BMW dealer told me my timing chain and oil pump warranty will expire next year, I am scared, but I would like to keep my car till 150k-200k. I plan to ask the dealer to change my timing chain right after my warranty expired, so if I ask the BMW dealer to upgrade my timing chain to the 2015 version, does it avoid timing chain issues for 2012-2014 N20? thanks for your help! |

There are many threads here about the chain. Finding them is a PITA because the search function here sucks. For instance, if you search 'chain' it will show everything from timing chain to tire chains. Search 'BMW N20 timing chain' on Google and you find what you're looking for.
