The difference in clarity between a class D JL Audio XD product and a good class AB is very obvious when comparing between 2 cars. You can not build a great sound system with only one amp. You will soon realise you want more. Get 2 amps, 2 Mosconi 120/4. That's going to be a little bit more expensive than a 700/5, but the difference will be obvious in clarity and even power. |

That's a reply I can work with, thanks!
Couple of questions though. With my HiFi system this wil give me 2 unused channels right? Now it's better to go with 2 sws 8xi 2 ohm? |

You could always get the 4 ohm sws and use one of those 4 channels as a 2 channel bridged.

And what if I'll get a mosconi 120.4 and a 120.2?
Best option if you'll ask me. 2channel for the sub's and the 4ch for the rest of the speakers. Good idea? 2ohm subs in this case.. And what about the inputsignals for 2 amps? Just tap them parallel of eachother? |

Only problem in my experience in that once you will have your system set up, you will soon realise you can even make it better by adding a central speaker in the dash, and if you go 6 channels only, you will then need to upgrade one amp again. Give yourself some room for later improvement. This thing is addictive. No need for an "input signal" to get those amps to fire up, they detect the signal from the speakers. You only need remote wire etc when you have a processor of some sort such as the MS-8 and the likes. Personally I would do the following: - Gladen Audio 201 BMW pack or equivalent (Jenhert etc) - Gladen Audio 4 channels radio loom (Yes 4 especially if you have PDC) - 2 Mosconi 120.4 - 2 Gladen 100 Coax 2 way for the rear shelf + 1 Gladen 100 Coax 2 way for the dash - Cheery on the cake: Mosconi DSP 4to6 or 6to8 (No need to have all the speakers on the DSP processor) / Or one amp will be a Mosconi 120.4 DSP You said you do not want DSP, but it does make a very nice difference, especially with the timing so you have this surround effect. Your car is already coded to HIFI, which is perfect, nothing else to change. |

It's ALL a big cherry on the cake I know upgrading the audiosystem can be very addictive since I done it a few years ago (not a BMW). But my reaction to your suggestions: 1 Will keep this in mind! 2 That's a great feature, but I meant what you called the 4CH radio loom How do I connect the second amp? Do I need to loop it trough from the first one? If so, how? 3 Think I'll go with this one! 4 Awesome! I allready found this one. Just put it in the car beside the original wires I guess? 5 I'll make a choice soon. As I said: 2x 120.4 or 1x 120.4 and 1x 120.2 6 Musthave! 7 For the future I guess. Start slow, end BIG! 8/9 Very nice for the future too.. For now I'm sticking with a "normal" mosconi. Later on I can choose for the processor. You've been a great help so far! I hope you'll keep going to support me I would love to hear your answers from the questions above. |

Nice! Didn't know the y-cable was capable for the job
It is easier for me to use the mosconi harness because I can order it with the rest of the parts. And the processor is maybe for a later upgrade. So this is perfect too, to add a standalone unit after.. Thank you!! Will be shopping around now for a while. I'll keep This thread updated as soon as I order my equipment. Thanks again! |

DONE!
It's been a while since I've been here but everything is installed!
It was already installed in january but I couldn't find the time to update my post. Since I'm really pleased with all the help I've got from other members I HAD to post my final installation, so here it is. Setup Mosconi gladen 120.4 Nice 4-channel amp that partially replaces the OEM amp. Gladen one 201 EXTREME speakerpack Since I noticed that I didn't need an extra amp (Mosconi 120.2) I thought why not choose for the Extreme speakerpack so I did. Gladen 100 coax A small upgrade for the orignal "deck"speakers. 2ch loom (Gladen) Why a 2 channel? I wanted to keep my rearspeakers but I think €400 for a bit of sound for the passengers is ridiculous. So when the audiodealer advised me to keep the original amp for the rearspeakers all there was left to do is install a better quality speaker. Silentcoat I've silenced my doors using a starterpack of Silentcoat. Very nice material! Some wires I've used additional wiring for the underseatsubs, and some power wires.. the usual. First job was replace the underseats. Sorry forgot to make nice pictures here! Next up, lay down the 2ch loom in place. Too bad, also no pictures. It was really frustrating to get the connector behind the radio but after some deap breaths en patience it fits! That's the reason why Next step, replacing the rearspeakers. FIY, the gladen 100 coax aren't made for a sedan but for a stationwagon with doorspeaker instead of deckspeakers. The problem with this is that the speakers won't fit right in. Solution? Take apart the reardeck and mount the speaker from beneath! The foam closes the edges of the speaker, you only have the use longer screw and turn the screwplates upside down. The hole is left from the Original tweeter. This is later stuffed with foam from the SilentCoat starterkit. Then I needed to disassemble the doors. No further explanation needed. First the speaker was mounted. The put the SilentCoat into place. It cuts very easily with scissors. Not everything was covered since it's a starterpackage, but it does the job very well. I've used an electic heatblower to soften te residue to paste the coating. Some foam around the speakerarea. Hot glue the passive xovers in place. And done with the doors! Tweeters is a fairly easy job. They fit right into place! I've only used a bit of hot glue just to be sure. And the new composet installed. Looks clean Same for the other door... Finally I've hooked up the amp. And I've made a mountingbracket so the Mosconi amp can fit right above the OEM amp! So yes! you can mount two amps (Original/Mosconi) in the side compartiment of a sedan. Soooo how does it sound? Well to be hounest at first I wasn't pleased, not clear enough, not loud enough etcetera. After a lot of finetuning the system it sounds very nice, especially for the money. The spectrum of sound is really width, the bass is pretty low and the system goes loud enough. I think my expectations were to high but after a week I'm really pleased with the upgrade. Most of the people who drive along go like The set plays all kinds of music very nice and I'm listening to it everyday! Due the fact I'm really pleased I've got some options open.. From my old car I've got an 12" sub 4ohm DVC and 2CH amp (bridged 4ohm 600wrms). I don't want to have a big box in my trunk but what I do want to know is the following. My current setup is an highlevel input in the Mosconi amp. My "old" amp is an lowlevel input. As mentioned above an Y-cable can be uses for looping i.e. a 120.4 to another 120.4. What possibilities do I have to hook up the lowlevel amp? Can I use an Y-cable to looptrough via the Mosconi and place a hi/lo converter between the Mosconi looptrough and "old" amp? This setup will be just for testing to see whether I want this. |

Im not sure I understand how you have everything setup. I believe you started with hifi, correct? Why didn't you just use Technics harness and remove the stock amp? Why are you using high level inputs?

If I understand correctly the inputs into the Mosconi amp are the front balanced outputs of the OEM HU. The rear outputs are still connected to the OEM amp which is driving the rear speakers. In this case, you can use a y-splitter but you need to check if your aftermarket amp can accept balanced inputs (not many can). If not, you need to get a converter.

Yes I started with Hifi!
@bmw325i, the reason I didn't use Technics harness is because Mosconi uses the same thing. The difference is that I plug in a harness behind the stock radio instead of the ampconnector. With this harness I can retain my rearspeakers with the use of a stock amp en power my fronts en subs using a Mosconi 120.4 Kaigoss68, you're right! So I know my amp doesn't support balanced inputs, but what kind of converter do I need? An balanced to unbalanced converter? Or will an Hi/Low converter do the trick? Any suggestions maybe? Thanks! |

I do not know of any such converter, but I'm sure it exists. If I were you though I would just get an amp that takes balanced inputs. JL XD600/1 does, but I'm sure there are others as well.

The reason I'm not purchasing another amp is because I'm happy with the current setup. The reason for asking is that I've got an amp and sub from my previous car. So I thougt maybe I could hook it up to test it because I'm curious. I'm not going to buy a new amp for this.
So just for testing.. dus anybody know what kind of converter I might need? |
