Care to compare the MPE and Dinan? I'm somewhat torn. Kinda sucks to have to choose between possible cracks and inner exhaust pipes that discolor differently from the outer ones.

I like the Dinan exhaust. On this M3, I have the Dinan High Flow Carbon Fibre Intake, engine and transmission performance software and Dinan Free Flow exhaust; it all seems to work together pretty well.

The sound of the Dinan exhaust is magnificent; at cars and coffees, I've had guys walking behind my car as I entered the event, videoing my exhaust to get the sound recorded. I get positive comments all the time. A local film production company mic'd my car and used the exhaust sound for a track in a film short they made about M cars.

Awesome! Not to derail the thread but do you have any uneven discoloration of the real vs. fake tips, and over how many miles?

To those with cracked MPE v1 or v2; when did you purchase?

I don't know which is which, but neither has discolored. I have 12,500 miles on my car; the exhaust was installed at delivery.

My car is 2011.75 purchased in like June 2011, how do I know if the MPE is V1 or V2?

38k miles and no crack, it's in great shape.

Does anyone know if the V2 added support brace (lacking in the V1) is just a tube that is welded to both sides (top and bottom) of the exhaust to reduce vibrations and warping or does exhaust/excess pressure actually get released from the tube/brace thing?
I guess what I mean is, is this a valve or just a cross brace that travels the height of the muffler body.

Thanks, that's what I thought. A pressure relief valve, as some have stated, in an exhaust made no sense to me.

Funnier the that...when the V-2 first came out guys talked about DRILLING holes in their V-1 to relieve pressure to stop cracking. Beyond stupid!

Well... what if I drilled into it and welded a tube in the same way as the V2. I just wonder, can you weld a SS rod to iconel ?

getting back to the original format...
1) 1st generation
2) 75K miles on MPE
3) cracked? yes, actually a big hole about the size of a quarter
4) stock cats/pipes? Test pipes installed 5K miles ago

2nd owner of this 2012 M3, had MPE V1 installed when it was brand new at 48 miles, now has 80K miles. All good when M3 was purchased 2 years ago. At about 75K miles, installed test pipes...BANG! Presto, like magic, cracks/hole now in the the MPE!
