Steering pulling to right
Anyone else experience this with their X3? When I got the car brand new, the steering wheel was straight on a straight road, however, recently, I noticed it's pulling slightly to the right, no matter what road, crown or no crown. Never had this issue with my 2006 X3, that thing was a tank.
So I took it into BMW dealership, and alignment was done, however, the issue remains. I'm posting a photo of my alignment specs in case anyone can spot something that the alignment guy missed. I circled some things I thought looked "off". Any ideas what this pull can be caused by? |

I have this also. If I enable Sports mode it feels worse. I've learned to live with it as I don't trust BMW to make things better if I give them the opportunity

my 2011 X3 had the same problem. Came home new straight, but within a few thousand miles started pulling. At 12000 miles the drive was downright scary at highway speeds so I took it in for service.
The SA said the front tires were unevenly worn and needed to be replaced, but if that didn't fix the problem, there was a bulletin about spring perch replacement. The new spring perches fixed the problem and now handling is great again. I thought it was the steering rack, but it seems fine. Unfortunately to get to the fix, I was forced to buy a replacement set of goodyear runflats for the front tires i was hoping to get nonrunflats, but that would preclude me from getting the spring perches replaced under warranty. Anyway, I'm happy its all done and I just need to wear out the tires so I can get better ones...i'm only too happy to oblige by burning rubber |

Over the past 45 years I have periodically run into this problem on various vehicles. Without exception, after it is aligned, and all possible mechanical issues have been ruled out, it ends up being caused by something the tire shops call a "radial pull".
Swapping the front tires sometimes solves the problem. Replacing the tires always, without exception, solved the problem for me. The amount of or lack of obvious tire wear does not seem to matter. I understand the radial belts sometimes slip or slightly move out of position. This changes the rolling resistance compared to the other tire. Therefore there is a slight pull. I do not know if this is an accurate explanation but I have heard that said a number of times. Last edited by RhoXS; 10-11-2013 at 05:26 AM.. |

Thanks, will consider your suggestion. Once I get everything fixed I selling the car and not looking in BMW direction anymore. They are making defective and overpriced cars (at least the X3s) with horrible customer care and lousy dealer service.
My car is 1 year old and apart from the defective springs, the speakers are cracking, interior is creeking, idrive is a mess of confusion, and throttle is laggy. I dont want to even think what other issues will pop up when the car gets older. |

After much searching and calling around, I finally got the # to BMW Germany Headquarters, I recommend whoever is having a problem solving their issue in USA, to try Germany. Here are two useful contacts:
1. tel: 011 +49 89-1250-16000 2. email: customer.service@bmw.com (this is the international customer relations email, for all countries... and should be used when US Customer Relations fail, as they often do). |
