If Middle Child can get a third year on campus (lottery based), she won't need a car, but if she has to live off campus, who knows what her needs will be.

Anyway, long/short of that is we'll probably need it another car at some point in the future. I wouldn't mind another e91 for them as they're such great do-everything cars for active people. But I also have the itch for an e93, so if I come across the perfect one for me, maybe one of them can inherit my 330i. The only downside is that car is definitely getting up in mileage, and I'm not sure what the reliability will be like.

Also my wife's F10 has always kind of annoyed me... continual little problems keep popping up, and they're all about 20% more expensive to fix than on an e90! I'm kind of kicking around the idea of replacing it with a X1 35i. They're basically lifted e91s with the N55 motor, so seem kind of kick ass! Here's one that ticks off a lot of the boxes that is a good example of what I'd like. But she loves tat F10, so would be a tough sell.

TMI? Well, you asked...
great update!
perhaps Baby, Middle and First can begin a high bid rental process and all proceeds go to Dad!

the Xi is really clean, well maintained, new rear brakes and new tires....start selling it upstream!

oh....here's an incredibly maintained uber-rare (1 of only 17) 335is E93....i know the owner and it's quite special:

Which place was that?

I just snagged a CIC screen and CIC head unit last week. Got charged $60 for the head unit and $80 for the screen - guy didn't know what to charge for just the display so he rang it up as a 'stereo with navigation.'

I also got a passenger side door window for my E93 for $40, that's the reason I went (mine has a deep scratch inside, won't look good with tint) since the yard had just gotten an E93 in the day before. Same color as mine and it was a LCI. I thought about getting the LCI side mirrors but I kind of like the smaller pre-lci mirrors. I did grab the rear storage compartment between the seats for $5, the one on my car had a broken cover.

I got excited about seeing an E93 but I'm not really sure what other parts I should be looking for. The whole roof mechanism was intact.

Just the local Pick-N-Pull. After asking if they were in the middle of the dash, which I replied "yes!", he charged them as "Clock/Small Gauge's". $14 each. And they had a deal on taillights, so saved $15 on that. Got the first car CIC installed and working, combox tomorrow.

Timed it perfectly to get out to the local between showers. I was going back for E70 trailer hitch, and an E60 oil cooler. I bungled the oil cooler bottom bolt and couldn't get it off with the tools I had, so no go with that one. It's just for a future build someday, so I didn't "need" it. I'm just going to resell the E70 hitch, but got lucky and it had a trailer harness as well! The one I got last week didn't, so this was a nice bonus! Both out the door for $90, so not exactly a deal, but a lot less than new! The harness looks like it just taps into existing wiring at the lights, so that should be easy as well!

I can't stand when the pick-n-pull yards don't keep an updated inventory. Went last weekend and they showed 6+ E92s in the main lot and another 6 or so in their private lot (you have to ask for the parts). They had probably 10 E90s and 2 e93s. Both e93 were absolutely destroyed. Ive been looking for a hood from them for a year and I can't justify spending $300+ for a damaged hood on ebay that I'm just going to cut up anyways. At least we got a AC condenser for my buddies truck for $40 so not a complete waste of daylight

Out on the West Coast, LKQ/PYP pretty much has a monopoly on self-pull yards. Their inventory of cars is really accurate, but the condition of the cars after a week or so definitely does not get updated. Those things just get destroyed, so you have to be there within a day or so of the posting. Maybe a week tops.

So, last year, Nova Scotia battled fires and then very bad flooding with record rainfall that summer.
One front page pictured captured my attention... see attached below.
I thought that this poor E91 will end up in the local U-pull yard.

And 3 months later, there it was with water line marked. It was sad to see it. There really is no comeback for flood vehicles.
The hatch was gone. I managed to grab low profile roof rails from it.

Good job being patient. Looks like it had a great interior at one time... :-/

Ugh. Sad to see. That interior is my color, and I'd have loved to have that rear seat with the ski pass-through (since mine is missing that). But not if it was under water, as it seems to have been. At least someone got the hatch. My color too I think.

Were the wheels still on it? I could use those...

Sadly, no, and the interior is ruined by water. Not worth using.

I went looking for a spare magnesium N52 valve cover and found a perfect one from an E60. Unfortunately the way the local yard aggressively removes the catalytic converters, they quickly hoist the engine, drop the subframe, cut the manifolds after the cats and unbolt both manifolds from the head, then drop the engine on the ground. This means it's impossible to get the valve cover off without a hoist or a jack underneath the engine, what a pain so I gave up.

I did manage to find a nearly perfect driver side mirror for $30, so now I can safely drive my 330 and actually see behind on the left side.

Yeah, it's ridiculous the way they hack through everything to get the cats out. You basically can't pull anything from the front of the engine, and it often messes up the ability to get to the sides as well. Lame.

I went to my local today as they had what looked like a really clean 530i come in yesterday and I wanted the oil cooler and filter housing. But of course they cut the subframe and the engine dropped into the radiator. So on to an X3 that was nearby. It's cooler/housing was accessible, except the power steering reservoir was basically blocking the top/inboard bolt of the housing. I was traveling light so didn't have a full set of tools to get the reservoir out of the way. On to a really nice 530XI wagon that was there. Sport package... nice car. Anyway, the engine was dropped but wasn't banging into the radiator. Took a little work to access the bottom bolt, but I got it out. I split the two halves apart to check for galling, and not a bit, so they used proper coolant! Popped the cap off and drained the excess. The oil was pretty clean, and the filter was in good shape, so win! Even got the cover with it, so happy with the find! $17 for the effort!

I'm putting together an oil cooler kit that I'll put in storage or maybe sell. Depends on if I get serious again about buying an E93 at some point!

I picked up an oil cooler from an X3 last week. It didn’t have the plastic cover, was this a pre ‘cost cut 2008 financial crisis’ thing? Or maybe the cover only came on the 5 series?

When you say ‘galling’ is that like pitting of the aluminium from the wrong Coolant?
I didn’t think to check the one I pulled.

I think they kept the cosmetic cover the whole rin, but I'm not sure. They just disappear over time, usually the first time the oil filter gasket is replaced.
And yes, the galling is corrosion and pitting on one of the two surfaces. I've only seen it on the oil cooler side. It happens when someone uses the wrong coolant... That's why using the right kind of blue stuff matters! Of the four oil coolers I've pulled, only one had it.
