High Mileage F36 B58 ownership thread
Hey guys, first post here, recently bought the CHEAPEST B58 powered car in the entire US(non copart, clean title) and wanted to document some of my issues for everyone wanting to get into this platform to be able to see.
September 15th 2023 I purchased my 2017 440i gran coupe blind from PA and had it shipped to Indianapolis Indiana Purchased for 16,000(17,245 fees included and including 750$ shipping) These are written from a Toyota tech, who does most of the work to my own vehicles. Starting off, received the car completely dead, didn't think much of it, jumped it, and called it good. First inspection noticed the strut has pushed itself past the steering knuckle as described in Having just received the vehicle, fixed it by loosening knuckle, and hammering into place, has held strong since then with no issues(i know its not the right way to fix it, I've been monitoring closely) After fixing strut issue, aligned car and broke outer tie rod Torx bolt, parked car and ordered inner and outer tie rods for both sides. Very easy install. Have been daily driving vehicle for a while, noticed the car battery will die after about 27 hours of being parked. Worth noting: I have stored codes for headlight alignment issues, and swivel issues, passenger side DRL do not function under any circumstances. I looked into the draw and traced several harnesses to the FEM module, but due to lack of info i took it to a local import shop, diagnosed as a bad FEM and quoted 1300$ to replace, not too bad, currently waiting on repairs I intend to keep this thread updated as ownership goes on, and hopefully will find time to write up some DIYs from a tech perspective. 2017 BMW 440i, 110,000miles, 3 owner |

update: got car back from repair shop and the car is definetly doing better with a new FEM unit. Still had a paracitic draw though, traced it back to the cluster and decided to do a 6wb cluster swap to fix it, and .....
it fixed the draw! |

Great news! Im also dealing with a parasitic drain battery on my F30. Its very sporadic, the last time it was 7 months without issues.

Sometimes I see this warning on the iDrive screen:
"Battery discharging while stopped: Start engine. If fault persists, consult service center." I also notice the "automatic stop/start" function will stop working around that time. |

My mechanic reported 804811 = Under Voltage Below 8.5V. No smoking gun pointing to a culprit.

Hey guys! been super busy with the f36, retrofitted a 6wb cluster(fixed my battery draw), got my new FEM mostly working, and FINALLY got my ISTA working, unlocked my DME with the MHD DME unlocker at home. As well as getting a new car for my girlfriend, 2019 VW Jetta 1.4t S, got her into euros finally lol.
now I've always had weird navigation stuff, such as my nav not showing my accurate location (sometimes 20 miles away, sometimes it shows im in the middle of the ocean) as well as emergency call malfunction which takes about 30 sec- 1 min to set after keying the car on, and after the message is shown, my BC stalk button becomes unresponsive and i cant even cycle the trip with the small button on the lefthand side of the cluster, I would like to fix that lol. When scanning with ista, the telematics control unit shows up as red/not responding, and i have a code stating theres no communication between ista and the module. Ive seen people talking about replacing the battery and fixing it? But wanted to know what you guys think of it? Whats my next diagnostic step for this EDIT: car seems to have been wrapped before my ownership, ive found leftover wrap under door handles and trunk parts |

Anything new? I have a 2017 440 with about 120k. Haven't had any issues except random battery drain and water pump. Have you looked at your intake valves? I constantly wonder if mine are all carboned up.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you! Since last post i’ve upgraded fuel pump(HPFP), swapped injectors, and did a trans flush. Car is running strong at 115k now! Just blacked out the grilles too! I haven’t heard of b58s having much carbon issues

Just did an oil change this weekend, and found 3-4 coolant leaks, oil filter housing is leaking, upper radiator hose is leaking, and heater supply hose is leaking. Need help to ID this plastic piece next to the oil filter housing, as id like to replace it as well.

Traced my right front headlight adapative malfunction to my rear fuse box, pulled my panels and found a fruit snack melted into my fuse box from the previous owner, bought a new rear distribution module from ebay and replaced it. After replacement my telematics control box started responding, my adaptive headlight issue is gone, as well as several other electrical errors are now fixed. Still havent fixed my coolant issues, but will get to that. Latley noticed more smoke on warm startups that smells oily, just ordered a Ross Racing PCV delete kit to help with that, also have a box of coilovers to install soon, havent found the time yet. New m240i wheels are looking good too. Just installed the bimmer-remote apple carplay package and couldnt be happier with it, great product at a very cheap price. Ive been extremely busy in ISTA recently and have a firm grasp of how the program works finally.

Is that part the BMW Radiator Coolant Hose Flange 11118511205? It's labeled "J" on the coolant diagram.
