Drunk driver hit my car last night!
My car was parked in front of my house. Guy comes around the corner and smashes into my neighbors car. Hard enough that both air bags deploy and it pushes that vehicle into the one parroted in front of them. Then, he tries to get away and throws the truck into reverse and backs into the front divers side of my car and then flees on foot. Bumper, hood, radiator, headlight, and possibly the ac system is f'd. They didn't find proof of insurance in the vehicle. The cops eventually get him. It was a 21 year old kid drunk off his ass. Glad nobody was hurt...in total 4 vehicles damaged. Guys and girls out there....don't drink and drive. When you do drink...be responsible! Pics to come...
Now the important question is... How flexible will the body shop be about me possibly getting an aftermarket mtec bumper?

I'm sorry to hear that about your car. I don't think the body shop will want to do an mtec bumper since they won't be reimbursed by the insurance company.

Just saying the cost of the mtec replica vs. oem bumper is about the same.

You more-so work with your insurance company more than the shop itself. If the cost is relatively the same your insurance company would probably be fine with doing that. However, SOME insurance companies want to put the car back to the way it was first insured... I would talk to them about what you're planning.

You can get whatever you want, as long as you pay the diffrence if their is a diffrence in price between the two. But it sounds like this kid might not have enough PD coverage to cover all the vehicles so it will be prorated between the 4 of you and you will have to file your own UMPD with your carrier to cover the rest.

Some times you can just get a check for the amount and do what you will with it.

BTW, I was rear ended and the body shop worked w/me to get an m-tech bumper. Just tell them whatyou want to do. You may have to cover the cost difference though.

drinking and driving is some serious shit, but unfortunately many people make this mistake and especially at that age. i wish public transportation and taxi was more accessible in USA to avoid this issue

How is your deductible amount being handled? Has your insurance company said that they will sue the drunkard and if they recover the cost of damage from him they will also pay the deductible amount to you?

if the mtech is more expensive than oem you will have to pay the difference. they should be fine with you putting a different bumper on.

Silly kid. Don't drive drunk! DUI's are a huge hassle and cost a fortune. Glad they found the guy though.

shity luck dude... i feel for you.. i just bought my 08 335xi 2 months ago and im loving it... but love doesnt come cheap.
I tapped into a saturn ion with its FU&%&*() dent resistent panels and ended up with 11k in damages for bumper, fenders, hood and rad support! mind you there was 4500 in labor but never the less 11k in total damages. Fortunately my insurance covered the cost and i even got an OEM aero kit (since the M3front bumper doesnt fit) and i got a new front clip with fresh paint and no stone chips!! to answer your question, my shop didnt want to steer away from oem, i think its just cuz they can run the bill to through insurance that way but the aerodynamics kit that BMW has for the 335 looks super sexy... |
