Harshness is more of a function of the dampers and not springs. In fact, when my rear dampers were optimized for a 620lbs/in spring, putting a 900lbs/in spring in there was actually softer/smoother than the 620lbs/in spring because the damping ratio went way down.
When people get more harsh rides after fitting stiffer lowering springs, it's usually because they're engaging the bump stops too much.

I have a '17 330i rwd, no sunroof. Stock (not M) springs, M-sport bars, & Bilstein shocks. I think my rear springs are too soft, but I can't take any drop. Going by the info in your first post, I'm not sure if there is hope for me. I think I would need the rear F80 springs to give me ~ 3/4" more height than they do in an F80 (1/4" + ~ 1/2" for M-sport?), which would have to come from my lighter weight. Can you offer an opinion, pls? TIA! Murf Last edited by Littlebear; 03-19-2020 at 01:47 PM.. |

Thanks FaRKle,
What is the weight dist. of the F80? I imagine not 50/50 like the 330i, but not too far off, so it seems the F30 ends would do a similar thing, ie: both go up almost the same amount (or down), instead of going in different directions (fnt up, bck down)? Murf |

My search finds the F80 at only ~ 110lb (two dogs) more than my 330i, with a weight dist. of ~ 52% front for the F80 (50% for the 330i?). So the rear of the F80 < or = to my 330i (by my calcs, depending on curb figures).
I think the F80 springs would drop my rear, and maybe the front. Any opinions or better calculations, pls? Murf |

Adding in my experience. I have a 2016 340 M sport, 6MT, with track handling package (EDC). I bought a set of used M3 springs from a car with MT and put them on my car this weekend. I also bought a new set of 4 M3 bump stops (after reading through Farkle's thread on those as well). The install went smoothly. If you are doing this for the first time or looking for a refresher like I was, I recommend finding Farkle's DIY on you tube. He goes through it from start to finish and includes good tips, tool advice, and all the torque specs you need. It is a great video.
Anyhow, the car dropped about 1/4" front and rear with the M3 springs vs. the MSport springs. I was hoping for a little more, but all in all its a nice subtle drop. Probably better to have a bit more height in the long run as a daily driver and mountain bike hauler via a rear hitch mount. Driving the car I can feel that it is stiffer but the handling isn't drastically different than it was stock. In completely unscientific terms, it feels slightly flatter and a bit crisper. One thing that was very apparent is that in comfort it settles better. My neighborhood has a fair amount of speed bumps and with the MSport springs it would have a double bounce when in comfort mode and now it has a single rebound. Which is how Sport was before, but with the stock springs and sport mode, the single rebound was much more harsh then comfort is now. I like it. All in all it was less than $200 for parts and I think it was well worth it. I figure this will suit me till warranty is up in a year and then I'll look to something a bit more custom with ride height adjustments. Or if I decide I just want to go lower for looks, I can always get a set of eibach springs. They should match well given the spring rates are very close to M3 rates. I see some ZHP springs, code MP for sale. I have an auto 340i, so am assuming a ~0.5" drop at most since it is softer for the manual? I have non-adaptive M-sport suspension currently.

Great post - going to do a bit more research for sure. I have a 2016 435xi MT with M Adaptive - I'm happy with the rear ride height but I would like to try and source F80/F82 fronts to drop it just a tiny bit. The wheel gap and front lip are so far way from the ground but even a 0.5 in difference would make it that much better.

I put standard F82 springs on my F32 about two years ago. I paired them with Koni special active shocks and have loved every mile in the car ever since. The ride is firmer but not harsh, and I've never had a passenger complain. Occasionally, I entertain the idea of swapping for the yellow Koni sport shocks, but it doesn't seem to be worth the money as the special actives are perfect for 95% of the time. Great upgrade, highly recommend.

What shocks/struts are people pairing with these springs? Currently have non-adaptive M Sport suspension on a auto 340i. Bought zhp springs from a F80 with dct and no sun roof, so high spring rate with expected minimal drop.

Decided on Emmanuel design f80 springs. Should be pretty low and maintain a wife friendly ride.
I’ve seen the lift people get with b8’s in addition to farkles observations I think the f30 springs have a lot of preload with b8s. I remember having to compress them (h&r sports) quite a bit Just on the stock struts. With the shorter b8s it would be even more. With these EMD springs i can start threading without compression. When the new bearings come in it should be about as much preload as I’ve experienced in my coilover setups Last edited by blumagic; 08-06-2020 at 12:29 PM.. |

As I have seen on here. Most people are using Bilstein shocks with anything. I just recently installed some Koni Yellows due to my EDC shocks 3 out 4 being toast. My car had Dinan Springs with Shockware. EDC is okay for those who want the convenience but compared to the Yellows that setup is straight Garbage. Especially for the cost of replacement. The only con regarding the yellows is the rear adjustment. They have to be removed but besides that they are awesome with Dinan Springs. I think the yellows are a better since you can adjust them to fit what ever spring you use.

My Setup 335d xdrive currently B12 with -06 Eibach springs ( this are slightly higher spring with 1095kg payload)
Would you guys recommend F80 dct springs instead of my setup? I find B12 to be way too soft. My car is using just about every inch of the shock travel to the point that the springs are fully compressed. You can actually see the marks on the coils where they touch each other. The ride on the highway is ok, but on backroads, the suspension is just overworked and the car bottoms out every time. I almost feel like this B12 was designed for 4cyl lighter cars and just cant hack the weight of a 6cyl car. At this stage I don't even mind increasing the height of the car in order to raise the B8 travel or just upgrade to b14 with progressive springs that i can manually raise, thanks |

Reviving this thread. I have my factory springs still from my old M4 (base, DCT, carbon roof). I’m thinking about installing them in my 2018 430i xdrive GC. Any thoughts to how much it will lower it?

Can anyone tell me if my F31 320d ed which has FF front springs are standard or something else. When I look at F31s with B12 pro they don't seem lower than mine?
