Maybe it’s because we’ve ’reserved judgement’ many times before, only to be disappointed. I have 0 faith in their designers at this point. I’m waiting to be pleasantly surprised but I’ve learnt not to get my hopes up.

Best thing is that these prototypes look nothing like the actual vehicle when it comes out.

As far as Hyundai, it’s downright insulting. All they do is copy other people’s designs. The Genesis design dept is a joke. They took most of the styling from BMW and put in a Cadillac grill. It’s hilarious that you compare it to them. The concepts r supposed to look funny and crazy. The real world ones r usually much different than the concept. The Rivian pretty much looks like a concept but it’s been well received. So to each their own. Im glad BMW is going back to the smaller grills of old with the concept. |

The design is a modern interpretation of the OG Neue Klasse from 1962, when BMW's started to become popular and instantly recognizable as a BMW throughout that Era and well into the 1990's
I like it, 👍 |

There are plenty of those. They are boring.

I have not been a fan of some of the new designs but I have to respect BMW as risk takers. Usually brands die from being too risk averse.

Another wonderful experience with the toxic spouse we call BMW. This is surely a design that could stay in the concept art book. I appreciate minimalism quite a bit in my life, but I am not a fan of the Tesla-esque direction that carmakers are going in these days. Hopefully I’ll live enough for a revival of unique characteristic design choice.

Like every single spy shot ever released and discussed on this site, I think most of these negative reactions are due to the quality of the photo and/or the immature status of the vehicle (prototype, model, not fully built out, etc). Let’s judge when we see the fully prepared press photos.
I think this has a lot of promise. Neue Klasse sedan is tremendous - even better in real life - and I think the language will translate well to SUV proportions too.

I’m skeptical this will be a massive success for BMW.
1) the iPad approach is disappointing. Perhaps the “screen that will cover the entire bottom of the windshield” will change my mind? 2) ICE and Hybrid, plus drop and replace parallel ICE/BEVs like the i4/5/7 seems to be working fine. This massive leap - is it necessary? I guess we’ll find out. Drove the iX50 today for the first time - with air suspension and loaded to the gills. It’s a nice vehicle, quick and comfortable - but not sporty and a bit floaty. Didn’t like the seating position or the weird angles on the interior and wasted space - reminiscent of a minivan. I was hoping to love it but didn’t… at all. IMO the X5 and X7 are more refined and have the right blend of comfort and performance. I’d buy an x5 with a battery pack or an X3 with one before I’d buy an iX. Perhaps that’s why they are launching the neue klasse. I guess I should give BMW the benefit of the doubt…? Maybe the iX appeals to some other non-sporty buyer, and the neue klasse will appeal to the legacy BMW consumer? |

It looks like a plexiglass aquarium, on LSD.

It doesn’t look that terrible but there’s way too much surface relative to the grille. Will be interesting to see the final design and how it comes together.
