Journey with Ebay 17t (Swap depot turbos)

Writing this post as to show you guys my experience with the tdo4 17t ebay turbos(same ones as seen on swap depot YouTube channel)

Installed these about two months ago and reaching 2k miles on these turbos

My mods include

-Chinesium turbos 17t "tdo4 "
-dual walbro 450 bmp bucket less lpfp
-bmp plate port injection kit with 750cc injectors
- aic ss
-ken@ WedgePerformance for tuning
-vrsf 2"inlets
-vrsf outlets
-7.5 stepped intercooler
- xspower charge pipe with 8psi tial BOV spring
-arm dcis
-arm catless DP
-secondary cat delete replaced with vibrant resonator , muffler delete
-rb external pcv kit, intake ports tapped coming soon
- xhp stage 3 trans tune
- maintenance and suspension mods to much to list
-

Car feels good runs amazing considering car only has 50k miles on it atm as well, no smoke has accorded yet from exhaust, car pulls like a freight train still waiting on revising tune. Haven't dynoed the car yet but aiming for 580 - 600 hp. Lmk if you guys are running these running these turbos or any 17ts and the hp your pushing on your setup

2K is very early to tell if these turbos are reliable, but I'm happy to hear so far you are not having any issues.

Please report back at 15K

Like others have said ...2k miles is really nothing. The majority of the failures I've seen online from the China 17t turbos are between 0-8k miles.

And like anything else, there are lots of other factors. Kids doing turbo swaps and not keeping things clean, not priming them with oil, not replacing old and nasty oil lines, pushing them with way too much boost, running them with the OTS MHD tunes, street racing with the car every single night, and a host of other things than in no way help the life of them.

Hopefully they last for you.......replacing turbos is a crummy job, that's what I spent more and went with RB turbos. I didn't want to risk a set of ebay turbos failing in a year or two....and having to do the job all over again.

Indeed I agree with you a lot of people put these eBay turbos to last and do zero maintenance nor take the necessary precautions I made sure to prime the turbo and clean out the oil line with compressed air even though there wasn't anything in them. I do regular oil changes at 3k miles with liqui moly 5-40/Mann filter so maintenance is all in place just really trying to see how much these turbos are capable on the dyno and how long they last with good maintenance

https://www.ebay.com/itm/25-Row-Oil-...-127632-2357-0

Bought this exact kit and just used the lines and cooler I had to cut a lot of the middle part but nothing major I did it with a multi tool used for construction usually [IMG][/IMG]

Then I just cut the line to my size and used a mishimoto oil cooler adapter with an male threads and new oil o rings which came with the adapter. Don't see temps above 230 ever even when pushing it don't have a Bms thermostat as this oil cooler is massive and will keep oil temps to cool for my liking

haha good call !

Im following most e90s channels, but those guys keep in mind they sell stuff, everything they sell is ''AWESOME'' and won't tell you if it's shit. (they show their mistake tho, but part of showing that they are credible)

Same if they buy stuff on ebay, they probably wont report, avoiding loosing their credibility.

I dont say you'll have issues, I just remind to be careful with ''influencers'' that sell stuff.

he also clamed to do 700whp on all stock fueling... even if in theory its feasible, I still have my doubts.

So far I have 30k on my fapo 17ts and I haven't had any issues besides readjusting the rear wastegate at like 20k miles.

What kind of boost numbers are you running on those? 30K is pretty good for those, the only twins I've heard about lasting longer are some of the RB's guys are running. Saw one guy with 40K on them, one guy with 60K on them.

Lots of variables....if guys prime them when they are new, if they let things come up to operating temps before the flog the engine, what boost they are pushing, how often they are changing the oil, if the PCV is operating properly....etc, etc, etc. ........

I'm maxed di at around 22 23 psi. I also beat on the car pretty often with canyon runs and rolls. Next step I'm probably deleting di and going full port. I did prime them when they were new, and also have been on a custom tune since day 1. I also don't beat on the car when it's cold and do my oil change every 5k.
