Intermittent clutch burning smell
Hi everyone!
I just bought my first BMW, a 2011 128i CV, manual transmission. I love it. I'm a fairly decent stick-shift driver. I bought it with 34,000 miles on it and I've put 1,500 on it in three weeks. I live in San Francisco and during some uphill and then downhill stop and go traffic I noticed the distinctive smell of clutch burning. After a while, even on flat terrain, the shift from neutral to 1st gear was quite rough, sometimes even rattling the whole car, other times merely a bit rocky. This morning everything was back to normal. My question is: is it inevitable that I will burn out and need to replace the clutch? Or is there a secret to driving stick in stop and go traffic? |
