Clutch and flywheel question
Hello
Just had a new clutch and flywheel fitted - typical me didn't think about the break in procedure and was never told by BMW about this either. Now I think I should be ok as in I have not launched the car or redlined and changed gear since getting it done. Although I would say that I may have changed gear above 5k revs at a few points (nothing really excessive as far as I can remember) Is this something to worry about and have I potentially affected my clutch and flywheel? I have not experienced any shattering or anything. |

I know in the manual it states to engage the clutch gently for 300 miles when you intitally break in the car, so not sure about that? |

You will be fine...you are only trying to bed in the clutch friction material against the flywheel surface, a bit like when you have new brake pads - you don't go bananas for a 100 miles or so then you are good to go.

Believe it or not, you actually WANT to slip the clutch a little more on the first few hundred miles so it deposits some of the friction material on flywheel surface. Again, it's similar to bedding in brakes.
