The tires are filled to 29 psi and absorb the impact, assuming without damaging the rims. Obviously lower profile tires have higher recommended pressures, but they still don't stand much of a change against potholes of this size without wheel damage. I live in the Northeast and damaged 16" wheels on all my 3 series cars at some point...even the non-run flats.

I was expecting some "nice" personal experience

. That first kerb test, i think most of us here would broke the front lip and bumper before wheels

my stomach churned watching that while thinking back to my drive from pittsburgh to columbus today. I really need to move south.....

I cringed at those tests. Luckily for them, those tires have a huge sidewall. On lower profile tires, you probably won't be so lucky. If you hit a steel bar or a pothole that deep at speed, you may have more problems than just your wheel and tire!
