M Sport Auxiliary Cooler Retrofit?

Hell everyone,

Has anyone done this retrofit? Is it possible? Doing a ZHP inspired build.

Nope. Cold climate car. I also converted my sportline to m sport but never did the cooler. Also need to delete my fogs.

I was wondering this too, didn't end up getting any information. You'd probably need to retrofit the auxiliary water pump too.

Yes, there is. It's right behind the passenger headlight assembly.

The retrofit isn't as straight forward or plug and play. You do have to re-do a bit of the coolant plumbing for it to work.

I also can't remember this - but is M Sport the only configuration that has the air to liquid oil cooler as well?

Not to be too pedantic, but it might be plug and play assuming you have everything including hoses, radiators, water pump, etc. I don't know if there would be a coding associated with it or not, or if it just splits the signal from the primary water pump.

No, my sportline 435i came with a stock oil cooler. Some M sport cars were didn't come either the auxiliary cooler. My friends 335i m sport doesn't have it.

I believe all N55 cars have the auxiliary oil cooler. My luxury line 335 has it.

Yeah just not the auxiliary cooler. Seems to be a luck of the draw.

Thanks for the clarification - must be a F30 N55 thing.

My F25 X3 35i does not have the aux oil cooler.

Not sure we are all on the same page right now. In the PASSENGER side wheel well, behind the fog light, there is an oil cooler. It is my belief it is there for all N55 vehicles on this chassis since my 335i luxury line has this.

In the DRIVER Side wheel well behind the fog light, there is an auxiliary radiator on M SPORT vehicles only. There is an auxiliary water pump which is mounted inside the engine bay somewhere that helps pump coolant through this radiator, as well as additional coolant hoses to integrate it into the cooling circuit.

I'm talking about the driver side wheel well... fun fact not all m sport vehicles have that additional auxiliary cooler.

Not that its never been wrong before, but RealOEM does not support this claim .

In any case, its entirely tangential to the discussion because we are talking about retrofitting the auxiliary radiator. I think you could do it but you need to get everything.

The only question that remains is how that water pump runs- I don't think there is any auxiliary thermostat so it must just run on conjunction with the main water pump. I don't know what wiring harness you need but this is definitely possible to do. It would be easiest to find a donor vehicle so you can swap the entire thing over, but that may not be feasible.

The real elephant in the room here is cost- It would probably be prohibitively pricey to buy everything new, since simply buying a bigger radiator is probably a more cost effective solution. So you could do this if you want to make an exact M Sport replica, but I sincerely doubt its "worth" it.

I did my m sport conversion with all OEM parts. Cost doesn't really turn me off, it comes down to, is it plug and play. I'm going to delete my fogs and wanted utilize the driver side cooling duct for something but maybe I'll just drop in a bigger radiator like you said.

I hear you man I love doing all OEM part retrofits. I believe it is plug and play, but you'll have to do some investigative work to figure out how all the M sport stuff connects together. I seriously considered doing what you're proposing at one point in time just to be able to drain the coolant system easier. You're probably looking at close to $1000 with all new BMW parts. Please provide an update in the future if you ever end up going forward with this.\

Whats the last 7 of your VIN btw? realOEM shows most of the things you would need on one of their pages. For example on my car - https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=17_0676 also shows an additional heat exchanger for M sport as well as additional parts for the auxiliary radiator - https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=17_0675

What kind of car do you have? Your picture for the oil cooler is way better than the one for the auxiliary radiator. I do see the secondary pump though haha.

I have a 335i.

As I think about this more I wonder if there is a different wiring harness for M Sport models, I can't think of how else the auxiliary pump would be powered. It would be much easier to inspect a real car than keep rummaging through realOEM.

Yeah I have a 435i. I have yet to see one up here in PA with the auxiliary radiator.

It looks like there’s 3 configurations - Base, MSport and Track pkg. (with an Auto vs. 6MT variation on the Track pkg). See borrowed pic from a recent thread...

Phil, you must have Base. My ‘16 435iX GC has the Track pkg version.

Looks like LOTS of hose changes are involved…

Yeah looks to be the case. Explains why I never really see these cars with the aux cooler. Not many THP cars.

Is one of the "aux radiator" on the track pack the oil cooler? I am confusing myself a little now, as I have Msport and coolers on both sides (no fogs), but i dont think i have track pack.
