e91 N54 conversion: which donor chassis?

Hi All!

Been doing some searching and not really finding a real “answer.” Though… there may not be one.

I have a pre-LCI e91 (it’s a 2008) that I am beginning the planning of an n54 swap on. It’s RWD, sport package, manual trans.

Naturally the best donor car would be a pre-LCI 335i manual trans… but almost all of them I’m finding are either totally ratted out or are enthusiast cars that bring big money.

How much harder is it to use an e92 or e93 donor? I know some of the brackets and what not or different but TBH I don’t hate the idea of doing a e92 or e93 front end swap. I’m just seeing way more e93s (and e92s) that would be an acceptable donor than e90s.

What about using an n54-powered LCI 335? I know there are some internal wiring differences that make things more difficult.

Thoughts?

during my research I did not find much information about E92 into E91.
Most member were strongly suggested to get a similar chassis to do the swap.

I did not search much more, since my E91 was 'medium' loaded with only CCC and sportpack.
And I really wanted a near to fully loaded one, so I needed a sedan to swap seats, door cards, sound system, cic, LCI m-stuff etc.

I also have a 2008 E91 and my donor is a loaded with Mpack E90 2009.

Right now I'm waiting for the fcking clutch ordered in may. I'm very frustrating about this project now since I have car parts everywhere !

I did a quick look on the wiring, seems identical, worst case I need to re-pin, I have wiring diagram.

You better get a E90, since the rear subframe is an upgrade, since it comes with bigger brakes, and I simply swap it.

I'll let you know the challenges between a pre-lci and LCI. so far all bolt up , CAS and cluster same plugs.

RWD and xi don't have the same abs brake setup, you need to swap this if your donor is XI.

E91 engine unbolted, waiting for the clutch before pulling it out, need space in my garage

N54 situation
