Discount on a new BMW?
Hi, a newbie here
Interested in a new 320i M Sport convertible from my local dealer, the car is in stock. The question is, how much discount should I be able to get for cash? I did see a thread recently on a forum where a member got 17%. Is this the norm or a one off? Should I be concerned about the 320i engine wise? Thanks. |

I do not believe you will get anywhere near 17% of a convertible model. My guess if you have no trade in you will be doing well to get anywhere near double digits. Check the online brokers and see what they are offering as a guide.
Best deal will be on a car they can get hold of from stock or sitting at storage. If you can comprimise on spec these will be the best deals.

http://www.virtual-showroom.co.uk/sc...=b&sessionid=0 10% discount has been a typical figure on a new car for many years. Looks like BMW are back to that point compared to the 18% discounts that were available from brokers last year. That's probably good news for residuals. |

I think you will be very lucky to get 6-7% discount from the dealer even if sales are bad they are stubborn.
The 320i E93 is a bit underpowered for me, it feels good when you get it going though. As for engine issues, it does seem there are problems, jerky tickover, lack of power from 1500 to 2000rpm and lack of response to throttle input to which BMW are dragging thier heels. Mine gave me a few indications of not being right but not really enough to warrant bothering the dealer. The worst thing for me was the 27mpg for a 320i ED engine (I must admit that I lef the auto box in DS mode so when I used the throttle it actually did something). I would buy one with a few thousand miles on it as the savings can be good but will still cost from 27K to 36K dependant on age and options. Weigh it up with any dealer savings you can get |

Resurected this thread instead of starting a new one!
I just got 12.7% off list of my new 335i touring by bringing a broadspeed.net quote in for them to match (cheapest offer as of last week). The dealers beat it by £44 in minutes. Damn should have tried harder! Spec'd up list price = £44,725 (09 price with 15% VAT) Broadspeed price = £39,044 Dealer discount price = £39,000 Then went for BMW select PCP over 3yrs / 15k pa / £2.5K deposit and managed to squeeze the payments down by £210 per month over their initial monthly 6.6% apr figure (don't know what final deal rate actually was, just less than 6.6%!) I just told them a max figure that my wife would allow and eventually they got there. £210 per month reduction x 35 months = £7,350 saving So I saved £5,725 on the car and £7,350 on an already competitive finance deal!! £13,075 saving in total - Not bad IMO. They are desparate! |

Are you sure that it was reduced by £210 a month from a 6.6% APR deal? Are you sure it wasn't a 6.6% flat rate? Last edited by NFS; 01-19-2009 at 10:52 AM.. |

NFS, you appear to good with the APR understanding, but your figure of £535 / month is only £18,725 over 35 months, which is 8 grand short of even the depreciation cost.
Please help me out if i'm lost... I'm paying £775 / month which is £27,125 over 35 payments. The GMFV is £12,177 (depreciation from £39,000 = £26,823) My deposit is £2.5k, so the cost for my credit is: (if i return the vehicle to pay the balloon payment) (27,125 payments +2,500 deposit) - 26,823 depreciation = £2,803 interest They initially wanted £985 /month but cam down to £775 What the heck interest rate is that now?? If there's something I should know, I don't sign the credit agreement till tommorrow.... |

At £985 a month it would have been 15.54% APR It almost looks like a 'bait and switch' job, but the final interest is very low! So long as you are happy to pay £30,400 for the use of the car for the next 3 years (£775 x 36 + £2500) or £844 a month, then it's fine. |

Thanks NFS.
How do you work out the APR ? What is a flat rate? I need to arm myself with some calculations when i go in to sign on the dotted line tomorrow. Although the end rate of 4.88% is very good as you say. The salesman said "we usally work on 6.6%apr" but you never see what is on their magical computer screen, just the scribbles they come back with on a notepad! As for whether 10 grand a year is ok or not - well thats new cars for you! |

Must admit I cannot stop thinking about chopping in my 320d Coupe for a 330i Saloon Auto.
Don't get me wrong I love my 320d but not only do I miss the six pot sound but also being lazy with an auto and having 4 doors with 2 kids. Seen a few for £24k less than 1 year old but I guess it depends on what I would get for mine which is 10 months old and how desperate the dealers are! What do you guys think? Simply not worth it at the moment? Cheers |

Back on thread - Glad I brought this up - just been onto the dealers, "err yes sir it was a starting rate of 6.6% PA" , i.e. a flat rate. So not APR as they infered. But the end rate is low, pretty good in the end. I had forgotten I'd deleted some options, so my quoted discount list price was wrong, its actually £37569 (still 12.7% off). So the APR will be more than 4.88%. Anyone? - £37569 price / 2.5k deposit / £775pm / 3yrs / GMVF £12,177 - around 8% apr I reckon The vehicle saving I got is a tangible figure, and the finance is very competitive at, but not cheap. Most online PCPs are around 10% APR at the mo. Over 3 years you are paying £ 5,008 in interest. My main observation is that the GMFV is low. I know the market is poor now, but in three years time we should have some recovery and the retained value they are quoting is just 32% If they upped this to 40%, it would reduce your monthly payments to £705. Out of interest, if you did this over 4 years with a GMFV of £10k, the payments would reduce further still to £655 a month, but you would pay £1200 more in interest. |

You're right, the GMFV appears low. A year ago a good 3 series was rated as 50% after 3 years, now your lucky if its 35%. I also called two brokers who were quoting online 14-15K residual for the same car and they said their online systems had yet to be updated for new Jan 09 residuals which have given large capacity petrol cars a real beating, they then said 12-13k would be more like it. BMW said their FV figures all dropped on 5th Jan. I've got November Glasses guide and it shows the following monthly depreciations: 08 335i touring auto m sport (manual not listed) -£425 pm 06 (2.5 - 3 years old) as above -£875 pm! 08 335i coupe m sport -£1125 pm!!! 08 335i convert m sport -£1550 pm!!! WTF!!! So oddly the older 335i touring is losing double the new one per month. But even the 08 320d m sport is losing £550 pm. I'll buy the car if its worth more than the GMFV (as my 330i was after 2 year PCP). |

I`ve completely had enough of losing money on my cars, as I`ve had loads in the last few years............and lost loads of money too !
In view of this, I feel VERY lucky to have found a car that I absolutely love, and am subsequently more than happy to keep, as in the current climate, I think you can very quickly get into lots of financial trouble if you`re not careful. Okay, I do think about a 335d occasionally, but I know that it would be utter madness to change at this moment in time, and I also think "why ?", as I`ve already had stage 1 done on the 330d which has taken it up to 275bhp, and with stage 2 taking it to 290bhp (and 600nm), for only a fraction of the cost incurred to change to a 335d, I would be daft to bother. In summary, unless you`re coming to the end of a lease, or something similar, and it makes good sense to change, then don`t, and just enjoy what you`ve got. My tuppeny`s-worth anyway !
