I'm trying to decide which route I want to take next. My choices are:
1. Pay for a DME update (~$300), upgrade to JB Stage 2. Advantage to this would be higher boost/power and probably a little less lag. Disadvantage is I'd have to pay for the DME update (argh), and from what I'm reading I'll probably have to get a chargepipe at some point as well. OR 2. BMS 3.5" downpipe and keep it on JB Stage 1 for the time being. Advantage is slight increase in power and a lot less lag. Disadvantage is downpipe on a LEASED vehicle may be a problem at dealer. I'm a little less than halfway through my lease and I may keep the car. I think the overall cost for each choice is slightly higher with choice 1, but only if I get the chargepipe. What do you guys think. . . and why? |

#1 won't give you that much more horsepower. What it will give you is increased driveability/smoothness. In addition to the other fun options on the stage 2.
#2 will definitely give you more hp and less lag. It will also allow you to use other maps if and when you upgrade to stage 2. At least that's my experience... |

I would get the chargepipe first, the stock plastic one is almost guaranteed to break under higher boost pressure. I have no tune and installed the ER chargepipe as a precaution.
I drove an N55 with the JB Stage 1; I felt it detracted from the driveability of the car. The car felt laggy at the low end - like I needed to give it more gas than stock - though the top end was improved a bit. I wouldn't install it in my own car. The downpipe is expensive to install correctly and you'll have problems if your state has emissions as part of inspection (e.g. uninstall/reinstall every year).

I have JB and map 1 is fine and map 2 is great but with dp will be better. I am going to get emission for two years and then install dp so no worried work emission for a while. JB4 so far has been the most stable for me besides PPK.

Obviously u need to return it in with stock dp at the end of the lease, but other than that your in the same boat as everyone else. Its depends on your dealer.
