change tires on how many miles.
hi,
i have 19300 miles on my car. i still have stock tires. when i was driving in rain today, during a u-turn, i felt a little drift. and back end was coming out just a bit .. and i was doing only 25-35 mph not fast. so question i want to ask is , is this the correct time to replace tires ? / what is the normal time/ miles expected from tire ? / when did you change tires ? harsh |

just bought the car? I'm doing 23k on my 09 stock RFT's and the tread is fine. If it's a 335, it takes a little time getting used to throttling all that powwerrrrr! maybe the tread can be low if it was driven hard. Typical life is 25k miles.

19K miles on rear RFT's sounds like they are probably worn out.
I suggest you check the depth of the tread on the rears. 2/32nds (1/16") is supposed to be the minimum. I replace mine before then. |

25-35mph is pretty fast for a u-turn...

it explains everything you will want to know about tread. teasers.... find that change jar... read more here.... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=51 also, look for the part about "wear bars" they are built into the tire to help you determine if the tread is worn and look like this.... see the horizontal line running left to right? thats a wear bar, when it is flush with the tread you need tires. |

my rears went for 20k on the stock tires. Fronts had tons of tread but I swapped all four because I was sick of the runflats.

When your car stops giving you a safe and confidant feeling when driving in the rain.
I'd rather buy new tires earlier rather than later. I don't care that I have "some" tread left, I don't feel the need to squeeze every last drop out of a tire if my car is not handling well. I don't mind being wasteful when it comes to safety.

To the OP -- make sure you have sufficient tread all the way across the tires. Our cars normally wear out tires on the edges first, it's possible for a tire to be all the way into the cords on one edge and not be down to the wear bars on the other.
Get down there and LOOK AT THE TREAD on all your tires. |

^ Now that's scary.. Your "Worst" sounds more appropriate!
I've done mountain runs on (F:Neova ~6/32 R: Potenzas ~3/32; Yes, rears had less tread ) and even though it gripped, I will never consider doing stuff like that with my tires looking like that. Quote:
