coding check engine light to come on when cars ok

Is there a way to code the check engine light to come on when there is nothing wrong with the car?

Or is there a simple thing to unplug to activate the check engine light?

Do you not see the Service Engine light come on for a moment at startup?

ya sorry for not giving context.

I had a problem with my water pump going out and a vanos issues but they didnt trigger the check engine light.

i unplugged my MAF and drove it to the dealership. left it unplugged.

they scanned it fixed the vanos issue, plugged back in the maf but did not fix the water pump. I learned that my issue was the water pump completely broke (prob from the radiator seal shit i put in there)

they let me know to change the pump and t stat and i saved having to pay to get vanos fixed.

Its the only way to get SULEV warranty to repair shit for free

Don’t think water pump is covered under the SULEV warranty. Plus you’ll need a code from the water pump not just a check engine light. Probably easier to get a generic or used water pump around $100 and swap it out in a few hours.

So there is something that has to happen for waterpump to be covered (not sure what but my service supervisor at the local bmw dealership said it is possible to have it covered)

for the check engine light as long as the check engine light is something related to SULEV anything else that has issues that can be covered by SULEV they will replace.

I had a sulev light on for my valve cover and they replaced my radiator because it had a leak in it (radiator was not throwing any codes)

maybe my dealership likes to be proactive but they have fixed a few non check engine codes that relate to SULEV

It's right, if the water pump fails due to a problem with the timing chain, the water pump may be covered under the warranty. So good luck

yea that makes sense. Mine didnt end up being covered. i think mine was from using those radiator sealing pellets when i was in a pinch to get the car to stop leaking
