Brand New F30 3-Series Spyshots Emerge (06/29/2011)
BIMMERPOST NEWS Brand New F30 3-Series Spyshots Emerge (06/29/2011) The next generation BMW 3-Series sedan is only months away from full reveal, and in typical BMW fashion the camo striptease continues during vehicle testing. The overall level of camo on the cars appears to remain the same as previous photos demonstrated, however with better lighting and angles, a more realistic picure of the F30 appears before our eyes. The true "mini F10" look of the car is much more obvious, especially when looking at the headline photo. That is to say a mini F10 5-Series with more taught lines and short overhangs. Modernizations to the design also include the newer tighter designed headlamp clusters that will include the squared off angel eye design first seen on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics and BMW M1 Hommage cars. However, the most striking feature of the new 3er is the deep character line which draws from the front fender all the way across the car to the rear light cluster. The depth of the cut and the curved styling of the rear wheel fender underneath gives the car a natural "widebody" look for a base family sedan. Other new design features also include turn signals in the side view mirrors and a new kidney grill shape. The F30 3-series will begin production in November 2011 (after production of the E90 ends in Oct.), and will come to market as 328i and 335i models. The 328i will most certainly be powered by the 'N20' turbo 4-cylinder inline engine (as found in the Z4 28i, details) and the 335i by a turbo 6-cylinder inline motor (likely the N55). F30 sales are expected to begin in Europe around the time of its world public premiere at the 2012 Geneva show - in March, 2012. US sales should begin in late Spring of 2012. |

It's starting to grow on me a little...very disappointed in the rear bumper of the 328 though...the tailpipes are so small and understated, it looks like a 4-cylinder Accord...does not say sport sedan, at all
I also really really hope that the turn signals on the mirrors are much smaller than in these shots and with a clear lense as opposed to orange |

Even though the 328 is designed as a less aggressive model than the 335, they could do so much better.
Why not go the route of Audi and MB and go with the split pipe (like the 335) on all models (sans M)? |

I start seeing a 1-series disaster (albeit on a smaller scale) at the front. The kidney grille has good width but is inexplicably squashed out and the huge gap between the - ugly - headlights and the grill scares me as it brings memories of the new 1-series and its abominable front fascia :-(

I think I really like it, I will def wait a year or two before making a change incase BMW decide (as always) to make a major change after the first year.
Maybe by then I can get an F10 CPO'd instead though

Mini-F10 sounds pretty good to me actually. Since the F10 looks so damn good with M-Sport.

Is it just me, or does the white car have only one working set of AEs?

Maybe angel eyes became turn signals.

Even if they do give the F30 the "Urban" and "Sport" treatment ROW, it probably won't be marketed that way in the US. For example, in the UK, they have had "SE" and standard trim for the 3 series - very similar in concept to the 1 series Urban and Sport - for at leat a couple generations. But they've never done it that way here, and I don't expec that to change now. We will get just one trim level for each engine (328i and 335i), plus the M-Sport option.

Definitely a 7/8ths F10. For a fairly large 4 door, the F10 looks damn good. Can't wait to see the coupe.

I do notice that one of the left angel eyes is out. I would be surprised if we even had the M sport option at launch. For the e90, although you could order the Msport/Mtech kit as a port installed option we didnt have an actual "M Sport package" until after the LCI came out. |

Wow, if they are going to make the tailpipes that small, why not just leave them hidden up under the rear bumper all together like the 7er? Would make the lower-end 3ers look more "luxury" and keep the upper-end 3ers more sporty...

im still pretty confident that the area between the grills and the headlights is being covered by something. that is not the final line they have some foam there to disguise the transition from the inside portion of the headlights to the grill ... look closely, its not uniform on both sides (ive noticed this in other spy shots too)
i think the headlight cluster will turn out to be wider that what were seeing
