135 coupe window tint
I am considering tinting the windows on my new 135i but I have a couple of questions.
Will the tint mess up the window functionality? Should I have it done at the dealer? |

No, it won't mess up your window functionality. No, don't get it done at your dealer unless they are as cheap as everyone else. Also, don't get metallic tint since it interferes with GPS, cell phones, radio, etc. Don't get anything other than a 3M ceramic tint. Top notch quality and ask around in the SouthCentral regional forum to find a high quality installer in your area.

I had mine tinted at the dealer for free. It is a good quality too. However, I dropped the car off for service today and mentioned window problem. SA pointed out that it might be tint related. OP, where in TX?

I agree that you're better off with a local shop as opposed to the dealer. Check your local boards for advice on where to go in your area, any shop can give quotes over the phone easily. I had 35% StunTek carbon tint installed on my subaru and I thought it was good quality for the money, should be cheaper than the ceramic (wagon was ~$250). 35% is the limit in MA and with a black interior it looked great (by the way, I'm sure any good shop will be able to advice you, but check your state's laws on tint, and remeber that most glass already blocks some light transmission, for instance, in order to net out at 35% I had to have something a little less than 35% installed). I think it's dye based but without the metals, and it comes with a lifetime fade free warranty.
I haven't tinted my 135 (yet). |

No, it will not mess up your windows. And no, do not use your dealer. They will likely source it to another shop and then mark up the price $100+.

Look around and compare prices, products and warranties.
In my case I paid a few percent more than the cheapest local price but I was able to get the exact tint I wanted and it came with a no-fault warranty where they will replace the tint if there are any problems (someone breaks your window, you scratch it with the seat belt, etc). |
