Ipod Touch 1G problems
I have similar problems with my 1G iPod touch since upgrading.
If I power the iPod off then back on and plug it in then it is found fine and there are no problems everything plays back as before. Switch the car off and then back on again and now it cant find the iPod. Reboot the iPod and its found again without any problems. Guess I will be downgrading it to 2.2 until either Apple or BMW fix this issue. |

I just confirmed that an iPhone 3G upgraded to 3.0 works in my car for music functions. I don't have a 6NF option in my E92, but after plugging in the newly upgraded 3G phone into the 6FL, it immediately scanned the phone and made all music available.
So, looks like it's the Touch (2G for sure, 1G unknown) that has problems with 09 iDrive and 3.0 firmware. Anyone else have any updates? Ron |

I have a 2007 E90 with iDrive and 6FL, latest software version with wastegate fix.
I plugged in my iphone 3GS and it works except I cannot charge. Did the pin-out change for the 3GS? I have never tried an iphone 3G. I haven't tried my 3.0 updated 2G iphone yet, will try later this weekend. For those of you that have a 3G, did you have to get a new 6FL cable? is there a new part number for the cable that works with 3GS?

My iphone 3gs doesn't charge either. Works fine otherwise, but it won't charge even with the adaptor I purchased for the original 3g.

http://www.cablejive.com/charge-converter I bought this adaptor and it allows my 3G and 3GS to charge. I am not aware of a new 6FL cable that fixes this issue. |

Having the same problem as described by several others -- upgraded iPhone 3G to 3.0, and now I get rapid flashing between the "Accessory Connected" screen and the iTunes playlist; sometimes iDrive says "Reading..." and then fails, but mostly it just says "Not Connected." And once in a great while, after a bunch of soft resets, it syncs up and works fine. Appears to be (as others have suggested) a handshaking problem, because once it works, it's rock solid.
Another thread (not necessarily related to iPhone 3.0 software) suggests starting a song on the iPhone before plugging it in. I will try it next time I'm in the car -- anyone else tried that? Also noticed that bluetooth seems to transfer contacts fresh every time now, which makes for quite a delay when first trying to use the phone. I can live with that, but no music.... |

Obviously, it works if I disconnect the 6FL USB adapter. It will play through the AUX, but that's not a solution to any of our problems. |

Contacts no longer sync
I have an '09 E93, 335i. iPhone2.1/6FL combination worked fine for phone features. When I upgraded the phone to 3.0, I lost the ability to sync phone book. I'm going to downgrade the phone for now, and watch for a fix..

This combo works fine on my 2007 335i. Did you try deleting the phone from the car's BT paired list and repairing?

Hi all
New to the forum, also new to all things iPod/iPhone having just bought a 3GS. My 2007 E90 Touring has bluetooth and the USB/Aux input in the centre console (armrest) and I was sold a "Cable Adapter for Apple iPod" from my local dealer (not cheap at £40/$65). When plugging in, the 3GS states that the cable is not Apple authorised will not charge the unit. I also get interference every 10 seconds where the music will fade out and then back in. On the plus side, I had no problems pairing the 3GS and all contacts are now available. Any ideas on the cable/charging/fading issues? Cheers |

Not charging an iPhone is common. Even in my 09 with 6FL, it won't charge my phone. Also the popup message about it not being an authorized apple accessory is normal. Just dismiss the message.
The interference problem is something that shouldn't happen, though.

I wondered if it was something to do with the iPhone checking for new email every 15 minutes, but the fading happens more frequently than that...every 30 seconds or so!

But now it won't even do that anymore, and I am not sure if it is due to a change in OS 3.0, or if it was something that changed in a previous OS update and I just didn't notice until now. Anyone else have the same thing happen? If so were you able to get the old behavior back, or is it a hopeless issue? Quote:

I submitted a request to BMW Customer Relations on bmwusa.com and got this message in response, so what we can see here is that BMW is aware of the problem
------------- Rony: Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2009 BMW 335xi. We appreciate your inquiry. Unfortunately, the 3.0 version of the Apple iPod software is currently not compatible with the BMW. BMW is currently researching to see what is able to be done with the software levels to assist with the compatibility to the iPod. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please stay in touch with www.bmwusa.com and you dealer for any further information as it becomes available. If you have any further comments or questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for contacting BMW. Sincerely, Christa McGrew Customer Relations and Services Representative |

Has anyone been having success recently? After working through the case with BMW, I upgraded the phone to 3.0 on advice that BMW had made a change to the way that the ipod was recognized and beamed the fix to the car over Assist.
It actually sort of worked on 3.0 in that after multiple disconnects and resets, it would eventually connect to iDrive, but when you shut the car off and returned, you were met with the iDrive not recognizing the device again and you having to do those multiple soft or full resets on the Touch to get it back. I've since gone back to 2.2.1, but am now running into the issue where many of my purchased apps require 3.0 and are now no longer working. I have taken other people's iPhone 3G and 3GS devices and successfully plugged them into my car and they all seem to work (I didn't check the charging issue that others are having an issue with). This is really getting annoying. Ron |

I have the same exact problem and didn't think about how it might be related to the 3.0 upgrade until I saw your post....

iPod Touch 2nd Generation
I just purchased a 2008 135i convertible that came with the 61.12.0.440.796 dongle and I'm seeing exactly the same issue with my iPod Touch 2G with 3.0 OS. I called my local BMW dealer and they said I needed part # 61.12.0.440.812 but I don't think she was knowledgeable of the exact issue that was occurring. I'd hate to blow $74 bucks on a duplicate dongle. Anyone else heard about this part number?
