We're all in trouble brother

I just hope they get the parts in before my car decides to go into "safe mode."

I just received my letter today, but noticed the check engine light came on last week, so I made an appointment for this coming Tuesday to check it out. Considering what I've read here today, it sounds like I shouldn't drive the car until then. I haven't notice any unusual noises, but the gas mileage seems to have dropped ~1-2 mpg lately.

Got my notice today also. Also says that they don't have the parts to fix it either.

Got mine over the weekend too for my 2011 335xi. Called my dealership (Life Quality BMW in Brooklyn, NY) and they said that the recall (at least for my car) was sent out inadvertently and will receive more information later…..

Interesting - I wonder what that means. Do they think your car shouldn't be covered?

I'm going to call other dealers to see what they say. He was reading a direct email from BMW and made it seem like it was a mistake that it was sent out.

Bumping the thread up, I bought my 2011 335i with 26k miles on it 2 weeks ago with the factory warranty expiring very soon but has CPO (5/10 build date). The day I bought my car, later on in the afternoon I notice the car went into limp mode or reduced engine performance. I pulled over and turned the car off and then turned it back on an hour later and the light was gone. Few days pass, the light came on again, pulled over and turned off the car for a couple of hours and then the light was off. Brought my car over to the dealer on Monday of this week and turns out im getting my vanos unit replaced and I didn't receive any letters from BMW about the Vanos bolt issue due to the short time I've own the car.

Over the past couple of days my 2011 335i with 47K miles randomly went in and out of limp mode as I was driving. Now the check engine light is off but the service light is now on. I'm going to bring in my car to a service center on Thursday. I hope it's the Vanos bolt issue so I don't have to worry about it later on.

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum, I just bought a e92 335xi on thursday, same day it went limp mode, i set up an appointment for today (a week later) and just a couple days ago I got limp mode again. The SA at Budds BMW said that there was a recall on the VANOS, and when I asked him if it will be all up to date, he said that no dealer in ontario has the parts yet, ridiculous considering this is my first BMW and I did spend $45000 on it just a week ago. I figured buying a 2011 car and all it would be much more reliable, but at this point its unfortunate to hear they dont even have the part... Anyway, its there until tomorrow and I will find out what the codes were for the limps, hopefully they dont just point it at the VANOS and ask me to wait, I also have long morning cranks, and somewhat of a rough idle between 550-700 not sure if that is normal.

Just thought I'd chime in at this point since everyone here is in the same boat :P Nice to meet you all!

How many people have dealers around them that actually have the parts already?

Just talked to Budds BMW, turned out the half engine light was for the HPFP, they replaced that, did an oil change/air filter, and also did the VANOS recall, apparently they had some parts and they are just slowly getting it in as people come, and he said the guys figured since im already in for service they would change them out. I did speak to a different SA and he was much more helpful then the initial one. Anyways, VANOS recall and HPFP replaced, everythings sounding great!

Update: VANOS job was NOT done, although on paper they told me it was done, the SA went to confirm with the mechanics and they told him they didnt actually do it.... So he said he put the revised paperwork on file, and crossed out the job on my invoice and wrote "Internal" and signed it.... Hopefully it is still in the system that I have a recall. HPFP was replaced and long cranks and rough idle went away.

Update: Issue wasn't fixed. The mechanic actually tested the car before the keys were handed to me. Everything was ok. No light engines lights. Drove the car about 5 miles and pressed the gas pedal to the floor and the engine malfunction light was on again. The car stuttered but didn't stall. I arrived at my destination safely. Started the car again and the engine malfunction light was off but the check engine was on. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. I hope this doesn't become a headache. I've only had the car one week. I'll ask them about the HPFP being replaced tomorrow. Will keep you guys informed.

Update! Received a call from the service rep. Stated that my injectors failed. I'm going to assume that the HPFP. Should have my car by thur or fri. I've only driven the car a week. Haven't had time to enjoy it. Contemplating an extended warranty.

Vanos Replaced

On Sunday driving home from dinner out with family. Car went into limp mode for no apparent reason. Approximately 65k on the clock. Took the car to dealer Monday morning. Read out codes, checked car and tell me bolts are backing out on Vanos and they will need to keep the car. I am driving a new 5 series for now. It's a heavy pig in need of a lot more power, but nice enough I suppose.

Today I called because they have had it for a couple of days. SA says car is having issues. They replaced Vanos and it threw additional codes. Solenoid replaced and still additional codes. They are talking to BMW and working to get it going. I will let you all know how it goes. When I talked to the SA today he said that it was good I brought it in when I did as a couple of bolts had sheared and that it probably wasn't far from being in need of another motor.

My car is at the dealership for some insurance work, and I asked them to do the VANOS bolts recall (I had received the notice). Was told they don't have the parts and haven't been issued instructions yet.
