I am a 335I owner and love it. I just gave back a 2011 328XI which was a loaner. I thought the car had plenty of power and was a great DD. If I was using my car for a commute that involved a lot of miles I would probably opt for a 328. For me the HP does not need to be off the wall. Although I would never buy another BMW without some features that I have grown to love which is sport suspension, sport int. and CA packages. I likey the creature features. Good Luck with which ever ride you choose.

Thanks for you reply. I forgot to mention I am looking for CPO'ed 2007 or 2008.
I can't wait that long as I want to jump into BMW

6MT 328 and Auto 328 are 2 drastically different cars.

For DD the 6MT 328 is really fun to get around in and more power than most.

When will more power be enough power? Never. The Veyron will soon be called "slow". Think about the principle of diminishing returns. At some point, the high wears off, and you need another hit, but its just not as good. The 328 is a pretty damn quick little car, and no Civic, Si or whatever has owned me. Sleepers, ricer with mods--you may or may not win. Now, are you looking to race cars that are obviously and significantly faster? Like a Corvette, an STI, or a 335 (which is really in a completely different leauge)? You'll lose everytime. But 90% of the "light to light" draggin you'll do in town, you will win. To sum up, its got PLENTY of power for fun and town. Highway too. Kick it all the way down and you'll be at 100 in about 5 sec.

I picked up a 2007 328i, Sports, Premium, 33k miles, in great shape, Auto (I miss the MT, but the BMW auto is one of the best if you learn how to operate it) all for....22,700. So wihout premium and auto you should get it for less than that.
Good luck, man! Let us know how it goes.
335 owners, we know its quick. We know it is also less reliable. Priorities are personal. Apples to apples here, folks.

2007 328i owner here. This is my fourth year owning the car. No mechanical issues at all. As far as power, it's my DD and it's plenty fast for me. Anything I've ever had to do in traffic, like passing, merging, etc. has been effortless.

Now i have to start looking all over again, and i need a car by thursday. If i didnt drive 25k per year, i'd be looking at the 335.....hell, id probably have kept the M3. Now ive gotta try and find another 328i sport for a decent price in three days

Listen, Im going to be completely honest with you. The 328i is a very good daily driver but if your looking for a sporty car PLEASE DONT BUY IT! For that kid of money you could easily get a g37s that will blow it away. The 328i is a poser car, it looks good and is mostly for chicks, if you want a fast car get the 335i and never look back! (I will put ny life on the line right now and tell you that if you get the 328i after a short period of time you will want to extra power...TRUST ME)

What is wrong with a poser car that looks nice, drives fine, purrs, and has great reliability? If that is a poser then call me Dr. Poser.

In that case compared the the M3, M5, or M6 the 335 is a poser car. And wtf is a "poser" car anyway? How did you even come to this conclusion? What exactly is the 328 trying to "pose" as?

Im not looking for a fast car, i just want a good "drivers car" that is reliable and has decent power to be a DD. The 328i is not a poser car.....im not getting it to have a "BMW". The 3 series is a great driving car....period.

The more power arguement is a slippery slope...you could have the same arguement of upgrading from a 335 to an M3....and then an M3 to a tuned M3. You will always want more power. As much as i hate it, i need a practical, reliable car that will not give me trouble if i pile 150-200k miles on it.

My girl drives a '11 328i Sedan auto and I have a '08 335i Coupe 6 spd and her car is plenty quick but no where near what mine is. It depends what you want.. the 328i definitely has everything for daily driving and enough get up and go to be sufficient.. I'm just a power hungry driver lol

Then by all means, continue to look for a 328i (or even a 128i if you don't need the back seat room). With MT, a 6 sec. 0~60 time is all you really need, and 3rd gear is great for passing in the 50~90 mph range. Plus it's very easy to manage 30 mpg on the interstate. Also, while BMW recommends 91 octane for both motors, the 328i will do quite well on 87, but BMW warns against running the turbo engine on anything lower than 89.

One thing which has not been brought up is the pleasure of winding out the excellent non turbo 3 liter as it's power peak comes in at 6,500 vs. 5,800 for the 335i.
