Hello everyone! So Im sure most of us know about the SULEV 15yr/150k warranty provided on the N26, and other SULEV engines in the past. I have heard a few stories about the e90 and people getting numerous repairs done to their vehicles, but how many of you guys have had successful repairs under the warranty? I am strictly looking for N26 vehicles, but if it isn't worth it I won't bother limiting my search. Thanks!

IssaF32 was able to get a valve cover and few other things replaced, since the nipple on his PCV broke.

I got valve cover, turbo, wastegate, oil filter housing, timing chain tensioner(not the chain or pump), turbo oil line and a few little things replaced under CPO.

Get a car that has warranty and fix all the issue before warranty ends. N20 vs n26....I dont think it'll matter in the long run, since only emission parts have the longer warranty on n26 (like o2 sensors, cat etc) but I may be wrong.

Here is a list of all the years of BMW SULEV models, seems like it covers a lot tbh that's why I'm wondering how exactly people go about doing the repairs.

Thanks for posting that, it seems that my biggest fear is covered under the SULEV warranty (B46 timing chain failure, which is on the back side of the engine). I'm confused though, does this warranty only apply to California and the short list of states that are also listed? Or does it apply nation-wide?

So to get this straight, everything on this list for my vehicle year/model is covered past the normal 50k warranty? Until when 15y/150k?

Also, in the image below it says for NY it is only covered for 2016 and newer vehicles. I fI go to NJ will they take the car in for anything related to this extended warranty?

Has anyone had experience with this?

So I highly suggest contacting the dealers near you about this because it seems like you just need a good dealer to get this work done, but I’m not 100% sure if you can travel to another state, you can read about it in the warranty booklet for your car, I guess the can be anal about it and not service your car or they’ll let you pass. But the SULEV warranty only applies to the states listed, not nationwide as I’m aware of.

The California Emissions Control System Limited Warranty applies to all 2014 US-spec BMW SULEV vehicles registered in the following states:

California
Connecticut
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Jersey
New York
Rhode Island
Vermont

Cant speak for other model years but looks like Im covered up to 150k.

Think you are just covered for the emission related parts... Not the timing chain, turbo, etc..

None reported that I'm aware of, I'm just paranoid about it ever being an issue because it would turn into a major maintenance task.

Correct, kind of. Ive emailed BMW to request an itemized list of whats covered exactly under the 150k warranty.

Timing chain is only 70k per extended warranty for all N20/N26 vehicles. Has nothing to do with SULEV specific vehicles to my knowledge...

Turbo, cat, cylinder head cover gasket, ECM, HPFP, torque converter, TCM, Vanos, etc etc - are all covered to 100k.

Pretty happy to have just researched/found that out because of this thread.

Timing chain isn’t until 2016, but the turbo is the n26 according to the warranty

All N20/N26 engines are covered for timing chain and guides up to 70k. Regardless of year or model.

I believe the issue was corrected in 2015 according to what Ive read. So 2012, 2013, 2014 model years have the old design and are more likely to break.

At my BMW Stealarship i was talking to one of the guys that does the car ordering, he told me all the bimmers with the "B" engines are pretty solid so i think you are good to go bro

No. This is directly from my owners manual. No extended warranty has been purchased.

Valid for vehicles registered in the states listed above. Cant speak for other model years than 2014.
