328 vs 335 dilemna

Stuck on decision for loaded 328 vs 335
In canada it's 8k difference or 180 a month difference after tax for lease.

Drove both like both

I'm having a similar dilemma. They are very different animals in some way. The 328i is a great daily driver. It's quiet, economical, and the engine is strong. Apart from the rattly idle the engine is a great background player.

The 335i, on the other hand, always makes you aware of the engine. It's louder, smoother, and you are always aware of it. However, it is less economical, costs more to buy / lease, and for me at least, the performance is more than I need.

Drive both and see how you feel. You'll not be disappointed with either.

Why $8k? Equal builds will have half that difference (US) between a 328/335. For example, my slightly better equipped 335 was only $3800 more (retail) than the 328 build I was originally planning to buy... With a 'street price' difference of a bit over $3k.

What Glenn said. For my equipment choices, The difference between a 328i and a 335i were an extra six months worth of payments. Compared to the actual joy I'll get from the extra power, it was a no-brainer.

180 a month is 180 a month. $6480 more over the course of a typical lease. If you like the 335i $7400 more than the 328i and can afford it, do it. If I could afford it, I'd take a 335 over any 3 series.

I'll chime in for the 328! I had an E90 335 and the MPG was awful. With the 328, I am getting 18-20 city, versus 14-16 city with the 335 and the power isn't drastically different in traffic. With the 8SAT, the car is almost always at the optimal RPM for power and doesn't leave me wanting more.

I'd go with the 335 if I wanted X Drive and a manual, or a better sounding powerplant (not that the N20 is that awful).

Depends on what sort of driving you are going to do. If it's a lot of city stop-start you'll never have a chance to stretch the legs of a 328i, let alone a 335i. The 328i is also noticeably quieter (other than idle rattle), and it will be a fair bit more economical under such situation.

If you have some nice roads then a 335i may be more fun. It will definitely sound better once you wind it out, but honestly, I doubt you would be disappointed with the 328i.

Drive both back-to-back. I plan to so I can make the same decision.

328i is fast too. 335i is just a second faster but has a heavy front.

The 328i is a perfectly capable car. Fewer reasons than ever before to get the 335i. However if you're a purist (inline 6), don't mind the mpgs and have the dough to swing the 335i, I really doubt you would regret it. Bigger brakes, dual exhaust and bragging rights for the bonus!

I got a 335i with PPK

on either decision, get M-Sport

The 2014 328i is much better then the 2013, if you don't travel a lot to use all the 335 power then buy 328i

Now if want a sport car and can afford a second car for the snow day, buy the 335i rwd and drive the other car on winter like I do, trow PPK and enjoy the dark side

Huh? Why is the 2014 "much better" than the 2013 328i? Same car?

They changed the exhaust, no longer has that diesel noise, better navigation system, oil change intervals of 10k instead of 15k, they also changed the steering feel now feels very close to the old e90
And the list goes on and on
Other than the idrive nothing else changed on 335i

If you are looking more bang for the money 328i is better choice, if are a power addicted like me who owned 335 before and wants to add modules to the car, 335 is the way to go.

I didn't realise they changed the 328i exhaust for 2014. How much changed with the iDrive / navigation system.

The steering isn't bad now - I drove a 328i recently and even though it's still on the light side, it is precise at least. I also felt that the car moved nicely in terms of managing its weight. The N20/N26 is light so that must help.
