Going back to the earlier question, I've primarily been shooting if Off mode for a while now. Before that, I was usually in Manual with occasional stints in Av.

Yes, I'll admit I'm weak... and I probably need a kick in the nuts.

But, I guess the question is... do I open it and keep?

depends on your other financial obligations, and as we don't know them, it's not really up to us.

and do you need money to put a ring on her finger? or still too soon?

only you know what your bank account can handle.

But if you have the money for something like that, why not look at a Leica again and keep the 5DmkIII when it comes back or just go Leica, I know you like them

well, to answer your question... if Badger doesn't kick me in the nuts, I'm sure she will.

The Leica M9 is nice... but I've invested enough into Canon glass, and if I want to do some freelance work, a dSLR is the way to go. If I ever make a crapload of money, a Leica will be in my future. But, right now I feel like that's money not well spent (even moreso than this latest toy).

In regards to the 5D3, Canon got back to me telling me they want to keep my camera to take it apart and run tests (god only knows what the hell they found). Anyways, they offered me a full refund and I took it.

Right now the beast is sitting in its box on my table, and I'm staring at it...

so, did you open it yet? I'm sure you wouldn't regret it. Except for the ball kicking part. But who needs kids when they take away from play money

I haven't opened it yet Reed.

The main reason is because now I'm out of a nice camera. I have the option of ordering online and saving quite a bit of money (tax, gift-cards, etc). However, I'll be in a queue and probably not receive it for weeks (or maybe even months due to all the backorders).

So, yeah... suck.

I guess the other option is going for the 5D3 again... but man, this one is nothing short of amazing and makes the 5D3 feel like a toy.

Who do you know that you get such service? 5D Mk III comes and goes and now you have a 1Dx sitting on your table and another one on the way? (Been perusing POTN.)

Oh Mark.... you and your stalking.

Actually, I don't have another one being shipped to me... I was just curious if I could sell it online for a small profit (notice I didn't even list a price on it). Honestly though, I am strongly considering just returning it this weekend (if I don't sell it) and order one online tomorrow with my discounts and such, and then just stick it out until it arrives (whenever that may be).

I put it away in my closet so it wouldn't tempt me.

The $0.99 menu was put on this Earth for a good damn reason.
This is a virgin and you have duty to fulfill. If you don't then someone else will taste the fruit of Canon and all you will get would be Badgers sloppy thirds.

You may have to wait a bit... I haven't opened it yet. I'm pondering just ordering it online to save money, and waiting until it arrives.

I'll make that decision tonight... it all depends on whether I decide to go to A Gathering of Eagles on Saturday. I got a press pass for it, so I could take the new toy there... but, I have to keep the shutter count to under 50 if I want to return it. Sadly, that's only like holding the shutter down for 4 seconds
