Official Normal operating temp.

Well. I didn’t beat on mine, and do not have upgraded cooling. And my oil spiked around 230 I’d say..

Which is why I was concerned.

Cooling components with less than 50k. .

No. The a/c was off..

I just had my rod bearings replaced with BE. Hopefully not an issue here.

Also, the oil cooler is stock and original. 173k miles

Hope this isn’t a sign of mains starting to go. .

The owners manual says up to 250 is normal. But I’m not driving it hard, and A/C was not on. I’m going to try and replicate it today.

lol, again don't worry mate, if the oil temp increase due to bearing failing I imagen you'd here a knock and a boom already. Like said, search around and you'll find tons of temp threads and possibly some hints on what could be done such as fresh cooling, keep the radiator clean, make sure your undertray is intact etc.
Initially also concerned over temp fluctuations but realized the car is very sensitive to outside temp, coming up above 25C pushes up oil temp a few degrees even on steady high way driving.

I brought my car to the bmw shop who did my rod bearings to see what he thought. And if he had any recommendations. He told me not to worry. It’s normal.

He also mentioned when replacing with WPC bearings, or BE bearings. He usually notices a 15 degree increase in oil temp.

Sounds odd to me. Since these bearings have more clearance than previously with Genuine bmw bearings. Maybe he was just busy and didn’t want to talk about something minor.

Here’s a pic of where my oil temp spiked to lol

Drove around all day today. And couldn’t replicate it. Was a little over the 210 line with spirited driving. 85 degree weather.

My oil temp did not change after replacing my bearings and I can’t recall reading others saying it did after changing bearings and many have given updates in the forums after bearing replacement. You have not owned your car for long so you are still figuring out how it responds and probably over worrying about stuff. I have not put as many miles on mine as some but I have driven it for 8 of its 11 years and 70k of its 100k miles over a broad range of conditions like -20F winter to 100F summer and with oils ranging from 10w60 to 0w40.

Remember, higher RPM (not flogging, but just holding higher RPM) will generate more heat as you will be using more fuel. I find that I do that a lot, drive around at 4K RPM cause I love the sound and the response of the engine at that RPM range. I get terrible gas mileage and often see oil temperatures at 110°C to 115°C (230°F-239°F), especially if it is hot out and I am not driving very fast - think second gear twisty roads. If I then shift into a taller gear and drive at lower RPM, the oil will quite quickly cool to ~100°C.

I have run 10W60 LM, 10W60 BMW, 5W50 Redline and 5W50 Castrol and they all react about the same way.

Go for a rip on the highway, throw it in top gear and see what temperature you run. If you are seeing high temps while driving on the highway at low engine RPM, then perhaps there is an issue, such as plugged oil cooler fins ro a sensor issue.

Oil temps have been discussed before and anything below 125°C (~250°F) is fine as synthetic oils are very stout. Hell, I used to run upwards of 300°F on my old big-turbo VW

This may or may not help, but oil temps for me in the e90 and my e46 will spike up if I turn the car off then back on. This is likely due to heat soak. If I ever see elevated oil temps, I make sure I let the car idle for a few minutes before I shut down. This usually brings oil temps back into range. Most of the time I see this at autocross right after a run.

I also put AC on full blast to ensure all fans kick in while I’m idling.
