Engine temperature above 120 Celsius. should I worry?

Hi.

I drive an F30 2012 N13 136 hp + Racechip. Recently I notice the engine temperature reaches above 120 Celsius. Is that normal or should I worry?

It happened when I was driving in EcoPro around 1750 rpm for 25 minutes.

I was driving in a very tranquil mode so that the average consumption was 5.3lt/100km for 50 kms.

It was kind of uphill but the transmission was in Auto (Drive) and it did not need to shift down. Also the A/C was on and outside temperature was 35 Celsius.

Sounds normal given the circumstances. Long drive, uphill, hot outside, etc.

I wouldn't say I hit that engine oil temp frequently but it does happen on drives over 45 minutes or so, depending on speed.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I am very relieved indeed. Some bimmers don't even have the temperature dial so I thought it is OK as long as there is no error or warning on idrive. But suspicion haunted my Racechip'ed mind.

The car lets the oil temperature go higher while cruising, for maximum efficiency. It lowers the temperature when alternately accelerating and decelerating, to reduce the possibility of pre-ignition.

Yes
Thank you for answering, I'm wondering why the car starts to do this after 10 years, for me there is something wrong, I replaced all related parts ( all coolant hoses, radiator, water pump, aux or turbo cooling pump, expansion tank with cap, thermostat, oil pressure sensor, oil level sensor, oil filter base, the turbo itself, valve cover, I even replaced head gasket)
The water temp. Is 113 Celsius max and oil temp is about 122 Celsius.
This driving me mad

Are you sure you just didn't notice it before? BMW has used this variable oil temperature feature throughout the F series, and I suspect before that as well. The coolant temperature would normally be less than the oil temperature, as the boiling point of coolant is considerably lower than that of oil. If in doubt there's always the method of last resort...the manual.
